Pipers are synonomous with Scotland but all the Celtic nations have pipers and wear tartan.

We went to a friends wedding, and as they were both Cornish, they dressed in Cornish tartan and had a pipe band.

Yes, pipe music can evoke lots of emotions.

Same here. I remember 'Oft In The Stilly Night' played to bagpipes and a drum at the Queen Mother's funeral. It was very moving.

Phew! Sharp intake of breath time!

Ooooh! You are really cruisin' for a bruisin from us Scots on here

Incidentally, it used to be said in past days of the Raj in India, that when Scottish Regiments were deployed out there into battle, the enemy forces were indeed scared witless by those "men in whirling skirts and the sound of their bagpipes!"

Go to one of the Highland Games events, such as the Annual Balmoral Gathering and you'll be convinced that you hear them for the rest of the day, even when you've left.

The sound of bagpipes stirs up so many emotions, but luckily, we're tolerant of you Sassenachs who cast aspersions on ourt national heritage!

i wasnt casting aspersions , i love scottish music best of all the celtic traditions and have been to many scottish music festivals, i like the sound of most other pipes, just bagpipes genuinley have been described as weapons of war and theyre just a bit harsh in comparison to others. in my opinion x

Not too great a fan of them singly, but en masse they are a stirring sound, and combined with drums even more so! Love the massed bands, and I am not even Scottish! Although I do like a kilt

Bagpipes always make me homesick. It's been 3 years since I've been back to Scotland

The lad across the street from us learnt to play the pipes....now that's an experience! If you don't like the sound of the pipes being played well you'll HATE the sound of them being played by a amateur! Apparently he's now a professional & plays at weddings etc.

Kilts?

Now that's a COMPLETELY different matter.

It should be LAW that all men should wear kilts!!!

I've been trying to talk Tod into wearing a kilt for me, just once, even if it's just at home & no-one else sees him in it, but he's having none of it

Men in kilts are unbelievably sexy.

....has it suddenly gotten hotter in here???

There's a hotel literally 3 mins walk from my house, and there is usually a wedding on every Friday and Saturday, so I get the pipes and kilts in abundance
