you could look at it like that... but if companies copied an idea of yours, made money out of it and didn't give you any credit or payment for it I could see where you might be angry about it.

it may not end up being a case of them stopping sales completely... but samsung may have to pay apple a sum on each handset sold for what in effect is stealing ideas....

My samsung galaxy has died again.

It just stops working, luckily its a contract phone, first time they wiped it and did what not and it was done same day only I lost everything, all my numbers etc, this time, again no notice, it was switched on, but no messages were coming through, then no calls, then I couldn't get past the basic screen into anything. So I took it in again, but this time its been sent off for 3 weeks!!!

I love my samsung galaxy but at this rate I will have to find something different to use

I totally agree with you Fabio. You could argue about a company's method of protecting their ideas and intellectual property but there is no doubt, and it's widely acknowledged in the industry, that Apple are at the forefront of tech innovation. They do all the R & D and take the risks with the first products to market and need to protect this so that they can reinvest and create new ideas.

Microsoft, conversely prefer to beg, borrow, steal, copy, and rebrand existing products and pretend to have innovated the idea. And when that fails they will try to "kill" the company instead.

Smartphones with touch interfaces would not be with us were it not for Apple. Many tech products would not be here had Apple not stuck it's neck out.

So feel free to choose whatever branded product you wish, but reserve your ire for companies like Microsoft who have been instrumental in stifling innovation and technological progress.

To be honest it won't matter much to the savvy Jerry morse tappers, as they will just get them off Ebay. Btw don't pay to unlock them as there is a software hack for them.

i dont think thats being greedy

how would you feel if you spend years trying to master the technology to do something that works well and then some lazy bugger just comes along and uses it in their product

As Samsung contributes the flash memory, DRAM memory, and applications processors for Apple's iPhone 4. That would be shooting themselves in the foot!

"Smartphones with touch interfaces would not be with us were it not for Apple. "

I was installing touchscreen EPOS tills 20 years ago so the technology has always been there. Reducing it to a size that would fit a small handheld device has been the key to the mobile phone taking off into the stratosphere.

in the night garden

The Apple/Samsung thing will go on and on, Samsung have just as many counter suits towards Apple.

The problem is that IP laws are totally archaic and need re-written not just updated. It's not so bad here in the UK and Europe as they have been revised quite a bit but in the US where these law suits originate the IP laws are absolutely ridiculous. It's a cottage industry now, buying up old patents and suing people and it's very big business.

As for this particular suite it's full of bollocks, there isn't one mobile phone manufacturer out there that hasn't 'shared' technology it's just everyone turned a blind eye until smartphones became so strategic to EVERYTHING.

Don't get me wrong I'm a huge Apple fan boy and have used a Mac since 1987 but Apple are as bad as anyone for buying patents purely for tactical reasons.

It's called protecting your interests people, it was reported a few weeks back that Apple had more money than the USA, they're clearly a company not to cross, they've only been in the retail business since 2001 and they are now the most profitable retail company in the world, and they aren't in every country either. Patent wars will always be an ongoing issue with Apple, with current technology and future, so, anyone getting the iPhone 5 when it comes out?

The specifics, if anyone is interested is how the Galaxy displays the pictures...

Nearly all major IT players, pay royalties to each other for the use of their code (how the item does things) that they developed and perfected over the years.
