Is honesty always the best policy?
Is there really such a thing as a harmless lie?
For our World to spin happily is truth a fundamental requirement, an aspiration or an inconvenience?
Do any of you consider yourselves completely honest? |

i suppose it depends on what do you mean for example by a "harmless lie" and "completely honest" in this context... its all shades of grey again
I have fibbed to friends about where I have been when in fact I have been on meets for example.... now did that fib hurt anyone.. not at all
but my context of harmless and someone elses may well be different...
there is no such thing as 100% completely honest because in the end you would end up hurting people

I have just written my viewpoint on social tennis and the realities of living harmoniously in a public area.
There are very few people who I would be brutally honest to these days. But in my youth I hurt an awdul lot of people for believing that honesty is the best policy. I think you need to learn to handle people according to their capability of being able to receive. I would not like anyone being brutally honest to me if it served no purpose other than to make me feel bad about myself.
If the harmless lie protects from causing harm then you have reached your aim so therfore by definition its harmless. Its only harmful if you reveal your lie at a later date so might as well have come clean at the outset. I am referring to 'white lies' here. I would have to be in the situation before deciding what I would do in that case.
For the world to spin happily there has to be a blend and a contrast in order to know the difference. Some people want their world to spin happily and avoid the truth. |

I attempt to be always as honest as I can be with Sharon....I can`t live with unspoken truths between us ...fuck that..
I can`t think of one white lie, that I`ve told her..she respects that, however hard it makes things to work thru, or accept the differences....
Doesn`t make me easy to live with, I respect honesty from others...tell me how yer feel or think...I`ll live with it ...
I`m ultra sensitve to bullshit in real life...I`ll smell it out, and it bothers the hell outa me...
Fuck knows what I`m saying...not myself today ...waffling and disracting myself...
Kindness is a strength..I`ve known people die, fer the sake of unspoken truths..

I refuse to answer this thread on the grounds I may incriminate myself and that Siren, in a moment of total boredom of her Baby forum websites, may decide to have a look on Fabs and see what's happening. I'm staying schtum! |

Do i tell little white lies, on occasion yes. Do i tell big lies then no, would i tell someone a lie to save there feelings then no. Sometimes people associate being honest with negativaty. Surely you can be honest with someone and if they know what your saying is true they will come round. I had to give a close friend a right kick up the arse monday, she didnt like it but knew 100% i was right.
I know that people ask my advice because they know im going to be honest, they say thats the reason they ask me.
100% i want people to be honest with me, might not like it but at least i know where i stand.
Jay said he didnt like my new hair, i didnt like it, but then when he tells me i look gorgeous i know hes being honest.
I dont understand people that tell big lies, there is a guy here that does it, his whole life is a fantasy life. Its really bizzare. Then there are those that lie to appear funny or intelligent.
I have to tell the truth cause my memory is so bad i would have forgotten what id said |

"When peeps ring me to sell me something I tell them I just bought one. So, good policy, harmless lie?
"
I've done that too, especially with the breakdown sales merchants you get at service stations. Although we do have RAC cover lol but sometimes I just can't be arsed to see if they're selling a better deal. (The AA are doing amazing discounts at the moment according to MoneySuperMarket).

The closer the relationship, any relationship, the more significant the consequences of dishonesty can be. Therefore as a rule of thumb ... if you are talking to somebody selling you stuff on the phone or at the front door, goods you dont want or need... there is no committment to be honest. In personal relationships it is important though, for me anyway. |
