Instead of meeting at a coffee shop, bar etc for a social - users would meet on board a flight. Short haul would give you time to chat. And people would presumably be more punctual if they had to catch a flight somewhere.

People miss flights as well through shit timekeeping so not quite a foolproof plan.
And it's usually a bit higher than a mile btw
