My friends and I had a thing for calling all our cats after musicians. We started at college with Otis, then there was Hoagy (Carmichael), Ella (Fitzgerald), Southside (Johnny) and Rickie Lee (Jones). |

I love that idea. My ex husband named some goldfish we had after Manchester United players years ago |

I did have three male cats, all rescued, called Cat Boy, Charlie and U Cat. All sadly crossed over the rainbow bridge. I now have two females, also rescued, called Kizzy and Gary (the people who wanted rid of her called her that and she answers to it so I kept it) |

My ex had a dog called George, so had we ever got one together, I was going to insist that George's new friend was called Ringo. Possibly then moving through a list of drummers - Cozy, Nicko, etc. It's probably best for all concerned that we separated when we did. |

Gsd X Japanese akita called Kira. It's not a mispelling of keira and has much more meaning with many connotations from different cultures and languages.
Kira is a japanese name and in Japanese anime it is loosely taken to mean "killer"(it doesn't but I will let you Google it if interested.) In sanskrit it is the feminine form of Kiran meaning "beam of light", in Russian it is the feminine form of "kir" and can mean "mistress/ruler" or "beloved". It is also an anglicised version of Ciara meaning "dark haired".
All quite fitting as she is my dark haired, beloved beam of light and ruler of my heart and life. As for killer, that one is tongue in cheek. She is a big soft arse really. The only thing she kills is bad moods. |

Edit - do not Google Japanese anime, esp not at work! I meant to say manga, there is a big difference between the two! (I'm not into either BTW... lol) |

As an adult I have always had adopted cats so I have never changed the name they were already used to so they feel like they have some continuity (nicknames are a different thing and develop over time and getting to know their personalities). I always liked the idea of a human sounding male name for a female cat though, including a surname and title (and vice versa for a male cat). Or Thoth. Alas, they have the names they came to me with. |

My Dobermann pinchers are named Bruce and Isla. My pug was called Willow, the cats are Piper and Lucky - (cause she was the only 1 of the litter that survived). |

Our current family cat is Lily, but she also goes by Lily The Pink, Lily Monster, Lil, Lily Loo, Pest and Fur Face depending on who's talking. She was also briefly called Mojo when she was tiny as we weren't sure of her gender.
Lily's sister was called Ruby, often known as Ruby Tuesday, but she was killed just after their first birthday. Then before them we had Poppy, who was actually a boy, and was called Gizmo before we got him from a rescue centre. |

When I had my dog I got him as a 7 week old puppy. For the first evening he was called Charlie. The next morning I woke up having dreamt that we called him Oscar. I think it was fate's way of telling me we'd got it wrong |

Black Labs, all bitches (in more ways than one sometimes):
Purdy, Bess, Holly, Jazz
Often thought about what a Black Lab dog would be, then.......could only be one name for him !
Politically incorrect I know, but historical precedence (so glad they never got to do the re-make of The Dambusters) |
