It;s a very short train journey to London on the train, although your hotel is probably nowhere near the station which in turn is not that close to the town centre.
As others have said it;s a dump |

Bit harsh. I think it's quite a nice place, money has been spent on the town centre and been made more attractive.
Drinks wise, Bar Bodega is quite classy and The Horns (and sometimes The Flag) is good for live music.
Food wise, China Drum is decent for Chinese food, Tarboush does good middle eastern or there's always Woodys Grill for Turkish.
Shopping, Repertoire and Per Lui are good menswear shops and finally Cassiobury Park is an attractive park for a wander. |
