Nasty, nasty...

I posted a (slightly tongue-in-cheek) discussion topic yesterday.
What followed was an an avalanche of abuse, insults and downright nasty comments - not about my topic but about me.
I know trolling is alive amd well but I was really saddened to see how many small-minded and petty people are on this site. People who know nothing about me, my life or my circumstances - but chose to make wildly inaccurate assumptions about me in order to launch nasty personal attacks.
"If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything." Isn't that the old saying?
I must say it has made me question whether or not to stay on this site.

I can't fidn the thread in question but I would suggest that if it was an avalanche, perhaps you should consider whether you'd either expressed yourself wrongly or your ideas were just wrong in the first place.
Or you could just be petty and blame everybody else if that works for you.
Saying people are small-minded and petty is ignoring your own advice not to say anything if you can't say something nice.
I prefer the saying, "Damn the torpedoes" anyway. |

I have to say... this sentiment is perfectly sound as long as it's observed from ALL sides.
You can't post a thread that's "not nice" then expect everyone else to be nice.

You can't really moan about getting a torrent of negativity when you posted a derogatory thread about fat men. It's a total cop-out to then claim it was meant to be tongue-in-cheek. |

Basically poking fun at people's choice of partner sort of puts their backs up and no one likes being told their choice is wrong  |
