So I was at lunch today with a friend. She wasn't in a good mood and was fairly quite. So while sitting there's not taking i over heard a conversation between two guys. Ones sitting at the table and the other comes over to join him. Upon sitting down the conversation goes something like this.
Guy 1: I can't believe you ordered a burger. Your fat enough as it is.
Guy 2: I'd rather be fat than an ugly cunt who can't get a ride.
Guy 1: Fuck you I got me hole last weekend.
Guy 2: having sex with a cow doesn't count.
Guy 1: She wants that bad looking.
Guy 2:laughs rather loudly.
Then both start talking about some up and coming match. I sat there a little taken back. If one of my friends ever commented on my eating a burger or being fat I'd stop taking to them. Stop eating and become extremely paranoid. Never mind mind calling me ugly. I'd probably run off for a makeover lol.
So it got me thinking about the difference between women and men. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this |

At the risk of being lynched, and I'm generalizing broadly here, blokes slag their mates off to their face for a laugh and lasses slag their mates off behind their back and mean it |

"Guy 2 never had sex.
I mixed that up a bit didn't I lol. "
No what I meant is that everyone knows that lad chat is just bollocks.
That's why guy 1 knew that guy 2 hadn't really had sex (maybe ever) and why guy 1 didn't take offence at guy 2's comments. |

I agree, women are much more cut throat when it comes to banter like that. Guys have thicker skin so most of the comments that would devastate a woman is sucked up by male machismo.

I greet my mate with how's yr good tit because she has one bigger than the other.
She tells me to pic my ass up off the floor because I have a booty!
We're bezzies and it's banter. We're not perfect - no one is!! |

Guys just take it on the chin & move on its banter. My mates are savage on a nightout we rip into each other at any given chance lol e.g
Mate: taking pic "I best use the flash I can't see your black ass" lol
Me: at least u can see my dick, when was the last time u say urs? Needle dick lol
Sometimes I think girls are just too serious when it comes to body image even if its just banter |

Men are realists too. If a mate says you're fat...you probably are...a bit.
However, the fact they know they can say it and know you won't mind, is a statement of how important friendship is to us. |

I talk like that to one of my female friends. It's just banter and take as much as I dish out. I don't talk like that to anyone else tho. I call her a wee fud but we just have that kind of relationship x |

My mates are men or drag queens. We talk to each other like this.
Find majority of women too insecure and/or bitchy. I'm a femininist so that makes no sense but find men more brutal, honest and fun |

The banter the guys in the convo are having is definitely all good because of the way they are bouncing off each other.
I used to have mates that took it to the next level. They would continually treat me as the odd one in the group. I would always be arranging things with them. Only when they needed something did I truly factor in. And then when we did get rather i was ridiculed by them all whether it was my hair, my taste in music, my weight. Anything to give them a laugh really. It was only when I finally woke up and realised what was happening thay I removed these people from my life. Now I have better friends who give a shit. Easy for it to slip into that from the OP's scenario, alas I did not handle it the best way so let it mess with my noggin. |

This is socialized behavior imo, how they've learned to interact with each other.
Are men and women honest in different ways naturally - perhaps somewhat. Both are competitive but there's an element of being brutal against men that is harsh and can be hurtful.
Are men and women different in how sensitive they are? I'm not sure but know that each is expected to cope in different ways to different pains. |

I've always worked in a predominantly male environment, im a chef and although I've also worked alongside plenty of women, men are just so much easier to work with, less drama and I like the fact you can have all the banter without anyone taking offence.
I do speak my mind and although as I've got older I possibly stop and consider what I'm saying a little more often, kitchen banter can be pretty brutal, but everyone just fires back and gets on with the job. I've worked in women only teams and whilst the work is fantastic I find it much harder not to unintentionally upset anyone.
A lot of ladies just don't get the banter..

I think that is because over the years women have had body image rammed down their throats, on TV, on magazines, in clothes shops. |

Might be a British thing too. I've worked in all male environments where good friends constantly take the piss out of each other. Americans we worked with, often asked, are you guys actually friends? They didn't get it either..... |

Yeah but blokes also slag their mates off behind their back and mean it, too, which I guess broadly generalising means the difference is women don't do it for a laugh.
I wrote a sort of fanzine once of all the stories my musician friends told about each other behind their backs. There were so many that I got 4 issues of 10 pages each. Musicians are real bitchy gossips. They all thought it was hilarious until they got to the bits about them, then it wasn't so fucking funny. |

"After seeing photos of some of the men I'm seeing my daughter said they must have a Shallow Hal syndrome. We both laughed at that remark. "
Life goals right here. Hope to be that close to my daughter. |

Men often rip the shit out of each other, got to learn how to take it and give it back.
Prime example, me and my sisters bloke at the gym, im gaining and hes loosing weight..
I do my weigh in, 13.8 with 10% body fat..
Me "Fuck yeh, hit my goal this month"
V "yeh i lost 2 stone"
At this point i get dressed and head out of the locker room to hear
"MATE i can see my cock again"
The ladies in the gym all just look towards the locker room with me standing in a door... A quick little finger gesture whilst indicating over my shoulder as V is walking out
"Skinny bastard"
"Fat wanker"
"Prick"
Last word was another little finger wiggle at him and several ladies sniggered and V then turns and bows to the gym.
Part and parcel really...men tend to bounce of each other, if it was a sensetive area its left alone |

A while back I was inadvertantly privy to three ladies conversing. Seemingly all in accord, when one of their number went to the loo, the two remaining genteel ladies proceeded to verbally tear their erstwhile absent companion to tiny pieces.
Upon said lady's return, they resumed their seeming familial charade, unabashed.
Needless to say, it was an eye opener. |

Unfortunately I've seen this in work. 2 girls be bff's at lunch - one walk out and the other rip shreads off her. It's embarrassing. |

As a bloke I will rip the shit out of my mates and they do the same to me, I only do that to people who are really close to me. If anyone else does it who is not part of the "group" heaven help them lol
It is a weird male thing to show you care. |

Yu didn't over-hear a conversation between two men .....
You overheard a conversation between to pathetically small-minded knob-heads who probably only get sex with their right wrist ... |
