Joan Collins..

She's written a brand new book, 'The World According to Joan', in which she shares her thoughts on everything from parenting to glamour, ageing and travel.

And its clear that Joan Collins, 78 doesn't believe in holding back .

Joan says she feels increasingly out of step and she's decided it's time to speak out.

Loathe fat people?

"They are digging their graves with their own teeth. I think to be terribly overweight is incredibly unhealthy. And how do they get into a tiny lavatory on a plane. I feel sorry for them, I do."

Joan sets the world to rights on a range of subjects from actresses who use Botox, modern men and the obesity epidemic.

She says that actresses who use Botox have "pillow lips and eyes like tiny pits in a marshmallow cloud", calls rich men "mean and controlling" and worries about the uselessness of modern men.

But she's happy to talk about her relationship with her husband Percy, who is 32 years her junior.

"Of course we have sex," she says. "We have a very good life in all respects. We are friends, we are lovers, we are compatriots, partners in crime. Yes, there is a diminution in sexual desire as you get older.

"In your 30s our hormones are raging a lot more than they are in your 70s.

"But I think it's over-rated, doing it 18 times a week anyway, don't you? I think that's a male fantasy, not a female one."

She adds, "Sex does get better as you get older, and obviously, one is not living a celibate life when one is married to a gorgeous 45-year-old South American."

With her outspoken views on politics, manners and the need for women to wear nicer clothes, Joan's book isn't going to be popular with everyone - but she doesn't seem to care.

I have looked up to her for years but now reading how she feel about bigger people .. I find it very sad as i know not all people who are big sit around eating all day .. For some its others things. She dont seem to care if she hurts peoples feelings and i dont like that.

She doesn't need to care what people think, though she may just have alienated a group of people

Joan Collins has always been outspoken, i for one agree with her when she talks about the loss of femininity in the women of today, how many posters have i seen say they love the 40s 50s fashions etc....she is entitled to her opinions, and if people dont like it, hey i guess they dont have to purchase her book do they?

It's always disappointing when you find out someone you admire has views in stark contrast to your own. It's a good reason to avoid this kind of book or biographies. Keep the illusion safe and avoid the reality, haha.

As you get older you tend to be more open with your opinions and you don't tend to be too bothered who you upset when voicing them

Joan's entitled to her opinions, just as we are entitled to ours, but let's not forget that she's promoting a book, so it's not really surprising that she's aired a few of her more "biting" views.

she started out as a young starlet and been mixing with big stars all her life, the only ordinary people she has ever met have been servants and people who bow & crape to her every whim!,she does not have experience of ordinary working class people and we should feel sorry for her narrow priviliged life!.

dont buy her books dvd's or anything that she triers to promote!.

She sounds like a smart cookie to me. Being overweight isnt healthy and Im sure she sees a lot of unhealthy relationships of rich men and gold diggers around her. She also comes from a different generation where women and mens roles were very different. I can quite understand why she holds her views. They might not be shared by everyone but they are interesting none-the-less. I think she is a classy lady who is not afraid to speak her mind. Good luck to her.

Can't say the views of "celebrities' have any bearing on my life. We all have opinions on things that are not always popular...as witnessed most days on here.

I don't buy books by anyone 'famous', just not that interested in what they have to say.

Don't mind the ones that are the story of an adventure though i.e. Tony Hawkins - Round Ireland with a Fridge made me laugh all the way through

Even if her face has seen more nips and tucks than a tailor's back room.... I see no reason why her views should be any different to the person I sit next to on a crowded train or stand behind in the queue at the bank..... or any more relevant to my life.

I see her now as a bit self-absorbed

so consumed with her own selve that she is oblivious to care how her actions or words impact others. I have come across some in my time who have all most killed themselfs to be slim done all sorts .Because thay self hated themselfs for being bigger . I have a book that Joan did years ago and in that she comes across a lovely lady .
