I'm not sure there is a point to it, I think you should strive to make the most of it whilst being the best person you can be and try to get to the end with as few regrets as possible. |

Pessimist basically means negative. Optimist is positive.
People who view the glass half full are said to be optimist.
People who view the glass half empty are said to be pessimist.
Make sense? |

When my mother was dying, I asked her this question. Her response is that the point of life is to be happy.
She wasn't an overly optimistic drama queen who had to be happy all the time; quite the contrary. She struggled with a lot of things. So I took that to mean that we really should be happy in all that we do. |

I don't really agree with this because I see a glass as half empty because it means I have to buy another one so that's positive

I would imagine if an extra terrestrial species observed earth and was asked what's the point of human life?
They'd probably reply humans seem intent on fucking up their environment to a point predicating their own extinction .....
Well they say something like that but obviously in their own language.....

you once won a race between you and millions of others.
Now its a race against 7 billion.. if you always look behind you all you will see is where you started but not where youre heading to or whats just around the next corner..the point of life is there is no point...just how well you raced and how far you got...

The point of life is life itself.
Someone clever said, "We were given the gift of free will, the point to life is for you to decide yourself but if I were you, I'd use my heart to find it" "

"Were born, we breed, we die.

So, as someone who hasn't bred, my life instantly becomes pointless??!
Don't worry, I embraced that possibility a long time ago.
Life is pointless. And trying to achieve anything is ultimately futile. Before anyone gives me the 'future generations' bullshit, the numbers of those are finite too..
So if life is a joke, living should be base on taking the piss out of it. Do something stupid every day. Do something ridiculous every week. Take every chance to do something idiotic and never turn down an opportunity to make a tit of yourself. Laugh right in its face. |

Don't worry you'll be just as forgotten as the ones whove bred... Its just a case of time, practically nobody knows there great great grandparents names let alone who they were.... Roll that on a few more greats and your just as inconsequential as those that never had any "offspring". |

I wasn't speaking about humans on an individual scale, more on a species scale. If the human race was suddenly unable to breed, then as a species, yes, we'd become pretty pointless. |

There's no point but many strive to make it as meaningful as we can. Some more than orders.
Some want to make a difference, others just do their own thing.
It's totally down to us what we do with it |

The point to life....
To live to love to feel to be and to make others feel everything they may wish to feel.
Maybe it's the optimist in me but everyone of us can and does change the world...perhaps how we change it who we touch through our lives what we do how we live who we are what we believe who we protect what we achieve and how we make the world a better place is all the point there is...
What ever we do our impact on others is perhaps the real point to all our lives...
But then I'm just a dreamer... and know I'm not the only one...

I think it depends on perspective. Are we taking about the point of life biologically? Philosophically? Personally? Etc. Each will have different, though possibly tangential, answers. |

Free will is an illusion. Every, thought we have, every action we take is our inervertable chemical and electrical response to a stimulus. When you read this, the thought response that comes into your head has already been predetermined by your present and your past. You response will be your response, it could not be anything else...
At our basic level we all just a lot of atoms and electrons interacting with each other, is life itself a mere illusion...
Life is only one component in the bigger question, "is there a point to the universe?" |

I think it's a very good question and one that makes you think. To me, it is to be happy, successful and content, in anything I do and to look after my family in anyway that I can and also make them happy. |

It's simple. To be happy and have purpose.
Too many people seek the "extraordinary life" whilst missing all the simple things in life which make it satisfying. |

There is no point per se, except the laws of the universe and ultimately human life. We live, then die. We have needs and we can determine the point of our own life. As social creatures, the point for me is about the qualities of relationships, with other experiences secondary.
We can try to fabricate our own rules and abstract deductions upon life but we're organic matter - animals that are born, live then die. But we can sure have some pleasure in the living bit. Value others and life, it's likely that this is all there is. |

I spent a lot of my childhood pondering this question ( deep kid).
Getting older has taught that nobody truly knows the answer. Least of all me. It's all opinions and beliefs. I focus on loving my children and (hopefully) being the best person I can be. Thinking of these these 'greater plan' concepts, can sometimes suck you from the here and now. Maybe one day I will find out the truth, or maybe there is no greater meaning at all. I'm just in it for the Journey |

a "point" as in a specific reason or goal for your existence would require an intelligent creator to assign you that role.
personally I dont belive in a god so I go with there is no specific inherent reason for you to exist you just do.
however that doesn't prevent you from picking your own reason to live.
personally I go for being happy/satisfied

There is only one point in the universe: the point where everything converges at the centre of a black hole and all our knowledge of the universe, from Einstein to Hawking, becoms meaningless and unknowable.
To quote XTC: "We're all light." The universe will degenerate into photons, which will coagulate into a mass and form another big bang. As the Average White Band put it, "Le'ts go round again."
Carl Sagan refused to discount a God because he couldn't disprove it. Of course you can't disprove a negative but it all depends on what your definition of "God" is.
Some people, such as Elon Musk, believe we may actually be in a simulation. We've created simulated virtual worlds in which AI is becoming increasingly intelligent. Who's to say we're not also in some giant virtual reality, which is itself a virtual reality?
Damn, I could kill a spliff right now. |

meh our knowledge of the universe breaks down all over the shop :p
but we are getting better at understanding black holes for instance "hawking radiation" and how they evaporate over time.
an interesting question though is can information ever escape a black hole or is it the one place in the universe that information is destroyed.
