our youngest is back packing in europe at the mo and we recieved a post card today from him
really made my day
do you still send postcards when on hol?
i think he only did it as his phones not working over there and i'm not on facebook so was only way to contact me but i was so chuffed its made me think that i'm going to try to remember to send some myself next hol we have |

It seems like it was a sweet gesture in your situatuion
For me though, i personally find sending a postcard a chore. Yeah its not difficult to do, but i dont like gloating to the recipient as to the fact im not at home. And i have time off within my time off to let them know that! |

i always used to send them until mobile phones now i tend to text how hol is going but really going to make an effort in future |

I always send my Dad a postcard when I am anywhere.. he loves them...
He doesnt have a mobile... or email address..So its hand written only for my dad.

Do you pretend not to have a job to the unemployed ?
Sending cards is to share your holiday with the person.
You took time from your holiday to share with them - not gloat.
Funny attitude that to think that it's gloating.....

I have been to Turkey twice, sent postcards to home, friends and work and none of them have ever arrived. Anywhere else in the world I have been and the postcards always turn up. Still send them though. Bit of a tradition. |

Got one from my mother the other day, and when I mentioned it to my mate she said that to her its like a form of gloating that they aren't working, while you prob are! |

Ok maybe gloating is not how you prefer to see it, but it is how i see it.
When i was younger all my family could afford was a trip to devon (no offense to the locals!) and i always dreamt of a 'proper' summer holiday.
So for me personally, i felt it a little patronising recieving a postcard from a friend whilst he was on holiday in the bahamas. Though i am certain it wasnt his intention, you never know until you're on the recieiving end how it really comes across.
If you see it as different then thats your view. |

Green eyed monster is so ugly.
Being envious or feeling you didn't have what others had happens all the time. Doesn't mean it was sent in bad spirit just that the reciever was self pitying. That's okay in a child. Pretty ugly in an adult. |

Yeah the reciever was self pitying, but thats not the case anymore. As i said it wasnt sent to intentionally gloat; just how i percieved it at the time. Which may be how some of my family/friends currently feel, which is why i choose not to do it. |

My Dad always used to send me a dirty postcard from wherever he was in the world...Used to love getting them and always cheered me up knowing he was somewhere nice and sunny and hating the food...lol... |

I never send them as they arrive about a month after I get home and I get depressed when they arrive at work saying, hi you sad gits, are you missing me, im having a great time, and im sat in front of them munching my sandwiches |
