I had to give it into a shop to be repaired yesterday. (Sad face!)

Do you think they'll look through my phone? There's some questionable photos on there, proper filth! Cringing at the thought of going to pick it up already!

If the screen is smashed connect it to a pc and move anything off the phone you don't want to share.

If you do wanna share leave it on there

I'd normally do the same but my phone kindly switched itself off and wouldn't turn back on.

It you have a pin lock it would make it harder for anyone to view anything on the phone..

If it's just the screen but the phone is otherwise working, connect with a cable to a computer and you can browse all your files and remove any images or video you would rather not share.

A little late now but for future reference, you can download apps where you can store photos but need a password to access them. Search 'pic vault' in your app store there's a few to choose from. Alternatively some phones have a 'hide pictures/album' feature in the photo gallery, I use this for my naughties

Should have told them they can fuck off. Most phones allow enough functionality that the new screen can be reasonably tested without needing full access. Would you have given you bank card pin too if they asked?

Think these can hidden photos still be viewed without much difficulty via a laptop and USB cable... probably some apps better at preventing this than others

Hardly. I'm not stupid. A bank card is hardly the same thing as a phone. I trusted the phone shop so when they said they needed password so they could open the phone to calibrate the screen.

Plus these 'pic vault' apps are freemium so you can't do everything without paying. Then if you uninstall the app it's just gonna wipe the lot.

Just use a cable to back your phone up and wipe it periodically. It will run better too if you do so...

Bit of a grey area these days with Apple pay, etc. Your phone and it's password is a cash card.

Worked on repairs myself occasionally usually way too busy to care about personal photos / messages etc.

Hiding in the shadows

I recently upgraded my phone, had to leave my old one with them for 30mins while they did set up.

All my apps are password protected, but not the 'gallery' figured I front it out - I smiled at the guy & said "just to warn you, I have some very naughty photos on there"

He blushed bright red, mumbled data protection, Im not allowed to look at any thing personal.

No idea if he looked or not as was on his break when I returned & a lady gave me my new phone!

Did wonder if he was hiding from me!

Someone I know that used to fix phones said they did used to look (as someone else said 'perk of the job) but after a little while it stops being exciting so they all grow out of it and don't bother.

My advice though would be to make sure you use someone who's busy, the more busy they are the less likely they will have time to go scrolling through the pics.

Reason we don't have iPhone and keep to Samsung phones as you can save all pics stored on SD card which you can just remove if you have an issue with the phone even if it's dead.
