A 20-year-old man has been spared a jail sentence after he microwaved his pet cat, according to the RSPCA.
Stephen Stacey, of Omega Street, Portsmouth, Hampshire, was given a 16-week custodial sentence suspended for 18 months for causing unnecessary suffering to the cat, which he had named Comeonthen.
At Portsmouth Magistrates' Court, he was also banned from keeping all animals for life and was made subject to a six-week night-time curfew.
The court heard that on February 25, Stacey had considered throwing the cat out of the window but decided to put it in the microwave instead.
The cat, which survived the ordeal, has now been adopted by the RSPCA Stubbington Ark animal centre in Fareham, Hampshire, where staff have renamed it Nancy.
RSPCA inspector Micky Garrity said: "I am glad the court has recognised the serious nature of this offence and sent out a clear message that, under the Animal Welfare Act, pet owners have a duty of care to protect their animals.
"The way this poor cat was treated was appalling and I am pleased that the RSPCA can now find her a new home where she can be safe and lead a happy life free of fear."

Animals rely on us to look after them, absolutley disgusting that some one should think about doing that never mind actually doing it.
hope that cat is fit and well |

The law on animal cruelty needs to toughen up
In may someone shot my cat with a pellet gun, i didnt realise this at the time when i found her on the back garden i just assumed she had probably run over the road and been hit by a car
But the x ray showed that she had been shot and the pettet had broken the bone in her back leg
I called the police and the RSPCA both of which was pretty unless, i had a idea who it was but the police wasnt interested at all in going to see the guy and talking
it has taken 3 months, 3 operations and just over £2000 vets fees to fix her
Then about 4 weeks ago another one of my cats came home with obvious damage to her back leg, i took her to the vets and again she had a pellet enbedded in her muscle, lucky this time tho no bones was broken, she just had a op to remove the pellet, few stitches and some antibiotics
Again i called the police telling them about conversations i had had with the guy next door and that i suspected it was him shooting my cats, telling them now two of my cats had been shot and that i would like them to go round and see him
They didnt even come out to my house the second time, never heard back from them again
I was told, in not so many words, it was a waste of their time |

re post above call or write to the local paper and see if the police boyher to do anything then
the blike who microed the cat should be microwaved as he is thrown from a building at the height in proportion to the cat ( cat 2 stories = person 6 stories} |

Thats realy awful. That people can be so cruel, and that the police and especialy the RSPCA, wouldnt do anything about it. I think they should ban pellet guns. |

This country needs to grow a spine pretty soon.
There is just no punishment for criminals these days, prison isnt really a punishment now with all the human rights.
I know a few people who have been to prison and said its not bad at all!
But then again until there are sufficient consequences people wont be bothered about breaking the law.
But this guy just seems sick, must have something wrong upstairs to do that to any animal |

The story that both horrified me and i'll be honest i actually had waves of plotting to wait for the wanker when he gets out jail, was the guy who took an old guys collie from the front of a tesco, took it a walk, then decided to just throw if over a viaduct, the poor animal did'nt die instantly, it gradualy drowned unable to get out the shallow river due to its injurys, just evil. |

You might write to the police complaints people and report your police for failure of duty... but do some homework first.
Google your cats area of territory and check out firearms laws. The thing you might then be able to point out to the police is that the weapon was fired on public land. The laws regarding air weapons states that IF used in a public area it is treated the same as a firearm... having a loaded fire arm in public land is something like an automatic 10 years jail.
While they may consider your cats injuries 'not worth the trouble' they are making a serious failure of duty by not addressing the likely firearms offence which is VERY serious in their books.
For the sake of writing a few letters, it might be worth a try to kick the police into gear and get the sod on a firearms charge if not for animal cruelty.
The RSPCA are quite often useless with such incidences. They very much prefer cases like the one that prompted this thread... as the publicity gets coins in the box!
The police are typically useless unless its VERY easy for them to prosecute. Incidences such as yours they will not bother with unless you push and insist that they do something. If you can make it clear that a serious (in _iew of the police) offence has been committed then they MUST act. |

I watched a programme about what people do when a relationship breaks down, one guy put a kitten that he had given to his girlfriend, in a tumble dryer, there was just a nail left |

a lot of times i hear about what humans do to each other and i don't feel much emotion but when a defenceless animal suffers it makes my blood boil. Iwould love to get the guy in a room alone for 10 mins and do somethings to him that would make him change his mind - a few precise cuts in a certain partof his anatomy and insert fingers twist pull and cut! Noanaesthetic required - instant castration |
