We're blessed with 2 spider assassin kitties, who do all our bug control duties. They're especially effective with the big hairy bastards, like a challenge to them. |

"Has anyone experienced this just sitting there watching telly and all of a sudden a big hair spider runs a cross the floor, it has just happened to me, I don't like spiders X"
Yes loads.
We used to have one that seemed to live under the TV. It would run across the floor and back most nights. Think that was its daily excercise
I like spiders and even have a tattoo of one.

"Why do you think people don't like spiders?"
No idea.
It may be learned behaviour in some cases.
My daughters dad is terrified of them.
I was very careful to bring her up not to be scared of spiders and bugs, and she is now a spider lover.

"Why do you think people don't like spiders?
An ancient instinct to avoid poisonous stuff. Lots of people don't like snakes either "
its also a repulsion to things pretty much entirely different...to most. you'd never say aww look at that baby ant....generally we just dont like invertebrates as they dont generally have the features ourselves and other animals have. |

We went for a walk on Sunday morning and a carer outbwith a lad that has Downs syndrome walked towards us.
We gave way at the style and as they came through it the lad grabbed the biggest spider I've seen for years plus the whole web and ate the lot!!
Try explaining to your wife while laughing hard enough to shed a tear or two that the Down syndrome element of that whole scenario had no baring at all and you'd have laughed at anyone eating a massive spider plus its web! |

Tempted with a Goliath as they're massive and usually defensively aggressive,I like a challenge, which is why I've got a Cobalt Blue and a Malaysian Earthtiger I do like the look of the salmon pinks though, usually defensively aggressive and they aren't really hiders so they make a good display spider |

"I don't mind spiders if they stay away from me the second they get to close they have to die
That's just mean, spiders won't hurt you if you leave them alone they're a very misunderstood creature, stupid bloody films like Arachnophobia don't help either a lot of it is learned fear too,my kids aren't afraid in the slightest of spiders whereas a lot of kids see their parents freak out over spiders so they get scared too "
I do usually leave them alone like 95% if the time and if a friend is round who likes spiders they put them outside for me |

"I used to love my praying mantids...aggressive and fucking intelligent
Never kept Praying Mantis, heard the Budwing Praying Mantis can be quite aggressive though. What species did you have?
one was a common green...cant remember the species name, other was a very beautiful leaf mantis. The thing is about mantids is watching there eyes..there is much more action in the eyes than you'll see in many inverts.
They do have so much more animation and expression to them than other inverts, were they easy to keep and maintain?
pretty much...not a huge lifespan compared to spiders you have I imagine. More fun to watch definitely...mine were easy to handle...maybe just a jagged forearm pinch lol
Spider lifespan varies by species, also females tend to live a lot longer than males.I'm starting to be tempted to get a Praying Mantis now...

"I've bought a plug spider repellent. So far so good, but I'm still skeptical they're watching
They will switch it off whilst you sleep then gather all their mates together and come and walk all over your face
I'll never sleep again
They will be watching and will come when you least expect it
Why do you hate me
I don't,I just find people's irrarional fear of situations involving small arachnids that will never happen quite amusing sorry dude"
Tell you what mate, there is nothing worse than a phobia of something harmless.

Not concerned about them being difficult,I'm slightly obsessive when it comes to keeping creatures in that I like to know as much as possible about them before I keep them |

"Has anyone experienced this just sitting there watching telly and all of a sudden a big hair spider runs a cross the floor, it has just happened to me, I don't like spiders X
Yes loads.
We used to have one that seemed to live under the TV. It would run across the floor and back most nights. Think that was its daily excercise
I like spiders and even have a tattoo of one.
Nita"
Maybe the spider is a TV admirer.
Did you ever notice if the spider appears when the TV is out or if he wasn't dressed up in sezy lingerie.

For every one you see and probably kill there are at least five more watching you lurking waiting to reap revenge on you as you sleep scurrying , crawling all over your hair and face and having a poo as they do ....so don't kill them or they will get you .... |
