Is it just me that notices it or are more and more people getting worse at spelling basic words? not exclusive to this site so dont think i am having a go at anyone in particular ,because i am not.

In this age of text message speak i understand the shortening of words for speed or even getting a letter or two in the wrong order ,hard to type with one hand!

And yes i know there are more important things in life, but this is a forum for a wide range of subjects , so thought i would ask a question that has nothing to do with sex.

Call me a sad git if you like, my skin is thick enough! LOL

You mean like you,

"Poor" as opposed to your Pour. pmsl

Spelling does not make a person who they are. We are human for flips sake, cut ppl some slack.

I got pulled up for my spelling the other day, in the best possible `fun` way I know, so I cant say that I am perfect by any means.

Having said that I do appriciate good spelling and good grammer, because that was the way it used to be before this fairly new idea of texting

Though at the end of the day,... who cares, if we can make do with all the different accents and dialects in this country, I am sure we can make do with a few spelling mistakes

.... but I still hate text speak..lol

I think the general standard of grammer and spelling is in decline. Personally it annoys me to see poor spelling and grammer, however, as much as I hate it, I'm not one to pull anyone over the coals about it, because we all make mistakes - people in glass houses ......

When I d this, my message over laps the sides of the forum.

I used to be on another site where one person inparticular used to comment on every post regarding spelling, grammer or just to make a comment and it put me of posting and finally I left the site.

I think the same could happen here if my posts got maked for acuracy. I personally feel that so long as my comments re readable then they are acceptable.

Am I being thick, or are people spelling "grammar" incorrectly as a joke?!

For me, spelling and good grammar can say a lot about the writer - a certain level of intelligence, care and attention to detail. Not altogether undesirable qualities in a potential shag!

I don't so mind bad spelling or txt-spk in forums and chat rooms. People tend to type fast and want to get their message across quickly.

But if it's your profile or an email to someone, surely that's representative of you.

Ok so yes, we are all here to get it on at the end of the day. However some of us are looking for people to stimulate our erotic minds as well as our other delicious parts!

If a person cannot clearly type a conversation, I'm afraid that I already have a bad image in my head of how they'll be in play. There are obviously exceptions, but I think that it's a combination of bad spelling, txt speak and no imagination that straight away puts me off.

I had a message thread going with someone the other day that felt like I was having a naked wrestle with dyslexic Siamese twins!

Maybe we need a special code for people who'd rather just fuck and not speak at all, how about an option on the profile page; 'cummr not talkr'?

Download this:

http://www.iespell.com/

It puts an icon in the toolbar.

Check every message once it's written and it will check it and give you options for the spelling.

Most spelling mistakes are just typos and not bad spelling.

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but I can always tell a dyslexic person from a person in a rush. The dyslexic spelling is totally logical and easily readable whereas the rushing one is random.

Then again, I might just be used to it, as I have two dyslexic sons.

I also hate text speak.

A couple of things. Firstly if you use Firefox as a browser instead of Internet Explorer, which is a pile of shit in comparison, in more ways than one, you can spell check in the message box here, as any dodgy spellings underline themselves, and a right click on the dodgy word will bring up a box of alternatives which you can click to use. (Unfortunately some want you to change to American spellings, so it wants you to change ess's into zeds for example, but you can ignore that.)

Secondly, in my experience it seems as though it is mainly only swinging sites which seem to be overly concerned with spelling because on other non swing forums which I belong to, there are some choice bad spellers, and one in particular who spells phonetically virtually every word, like a five year old might, which is pretty hard to read. I wondered if he was taking the piss, but I came to the conclusion that he just can't help it. Absolutely no one has picked him up on the subject or any one else for that matter.

Perhaps it is because swing site users feel that people who message are potential meets, and spelling says something about someone who you might end up being intimate with. This is right, but you still have the choice, and in any case, these forums are not just a place for touting for meets; they are supposedly a social place for all users to be, irrespective of whether people fancy one another or not, surely.

Although we take care over our spelling and grammar, and dislike text speak, even on text messages, I avoid criticising others, because basically it takes all sorts.

Some people are not as educated at others, some people are educated in other ways, one good friend of mine cannot read or write, he does own his own business which he started from scratch and which have now made him a multimillionaire, he is one of the best Interior Designers I have ever met, he is in my opinion extremely educated, as said not with the written word but in many other aspects of life.

He does not judge people and he treats everyone with the respect they earn.

Then I look at your profile, someone who appears according to this thread to see people with learning difficulties, dislexia or just lack of a similar education, I see someone who SHOUTS things written in there, a total display of bad manners and disrespect.

The next thing in your profile is your insults to others "size queens"

Bad grammer, bad spelling can be annoying but we enjoy a lifestyle that is supposed to be, for the most part non-judgemental perhaps we those that are more articulate could also be more forgiving, I for one prefer to struggle with what is written than to be shouted at or insulted by others.

I'm dyslexix. Not massively so, but certain words confuse the hell out of me. As do double letters.

This subject crops up time and time again. And it annoys the hell out of me. Don't judge me because I might type weather instead of whether, or randomly add or remove double letters in a word.

Text talk is something that I don't like and to be honest struggle to understand and it has no place on a forum in my opinion.
