I called my parents earlier. They're in Spain. They hadn't even mentioned they were going they just booked on a whim. They do it all the time.
Now I can't wait to be retired and have freedom again.
How do you see yourself in your later years? Reliving your youth? Living it up in some foreign climes? |

Probably holding up the queue in the Post Office, shuffling round the bookies and nursing a half pint in Wetherspoons like every other old fart does round here 
Still got about 100 years of work till then so might as well enjoy it, South of France tomorrow, hard life  |

I'm gonna get some land and manage horses for people - be one of those eagle eyed 80yr olds that barks at anyone not doing their horse properly!!  |

I love being retired , although I still help out my old employers when they ask and they are happy to pay me in kind rather than for financial gain so it suits me fine ....  |

I haven't even considered it, I'm more of a live for the moment kind of guy.

So true!
I am one of the lucky ones who has stayed single, bought my house and have a little money saved back. I have been lucky enough to take early retirement but up until very recently my time has taken up with being a carer, one of the reasons why I retired. I now have the time to enjoy my tractors, visit my local preserved railways and spend some time on the naturist beach at Studland ....... or that`s what I have planned!
In reality, getting the house and garden up together is going to take an age and take up most of my money! So far, apart from not having the daily commute, I still haven`t found the time to do what I`d like to do! |

Go to the bank at lunch time , buy a newspaper early in the morning & chat to the staff creating an agitated queue from workers , decide to take my car out for a slow drive at rush hour & moan about how shite we're doing in cricket .

I hope to be completely eccentric with lots of dogs and bright pink hair.Batty but adorable in the eyes of my kids!.On a serious level though, I think we should all hope for good health.I work with dementia patients from all walks of life who haven't managed to achieve the dreams we have of retirement.  |

we're already semi-retired.
We do all the things we didn't have time for when we were working. There isn't space here to list all the things we get up do but no queuing in the post office is involved nor is bowls. |

I think ill be one of those nice old ladies who goes on bus trips and bingo and meets her friends in cafes.
Ill be nice and friendly and chat to people and wear slippers and do my garden |

I love being retired and rarely find myself bored. Trying to improve my running times (and failing), learning tai chi and yoga plus the odd Open University course.
Next project is learning to fly....
Only problem at present is my desire to live abroad during the winter (maybe summer too if the crap weather continues) which is stymied by my ever present and bloody difficult stepdaughter. Twenty years old and looking to stay for ever I think!
Any suggestions short of putting out a contract....?

Being retired is not all it's cracked up to be,
There is no knocking off on a Fri night full of weekend plans for a piss up
Sat and Sunday are just two more days in the week, except I don't have to drive the wife to work .
And its not as much fun doing things mid week when you are allowed to, skiving off work always added to the thrill

I genuinely despair of our political system. We've had no shake up of the political system since the Labour party was founded at the start of the last century.
We have very little time to face up to the reality of the future for the youngster's of today.
The future is plain to see.
...Millennials 'set to earn less than Generation X'
...driverless cars to be fully viable by 2021
45 years from now how many of you will have a job? There will be the 'haves' & the 'have nots'. Simple.
If you are in the 'have nots' & it will be the majority of you, retirement won't be a happy time.
So ....keep on swinging. With luck it'll still be tax free.

Been thinking of retirement today as I had my pension statement this morning, so far my pension is looking pretty good even if my wages only increased with inflation I'd have an above average salary pension.
My mortgage will (should) be paid off by the time I'm 50 so I'm going to invest and save like crazy from that point on to ensure I can still retire whilst I have a bit of life in me.
