You shouldn't shorten peoples names unless advised to do so. So if your name is Yvonne and that's the name you wish to be addressed by then people should stick by your rules and not theirs.

Mine has been shortened all my life..its elaine but was called elly from a young age.Tho my dad called me min

My aunt called me ell. no y

I do prefer elly as elaine was normally used when i was naughty...

Oh and i had a mate called olga and everyone shortened it to olg.

The best was when a friend was in berlin and in a shop and her other mates was calling her but shortend it....it somehow didnt sound right shouting "ju"

I have always been David, expect when I 1st started work at 16 and was then called Dave by everyone at work, too shy to say anything so it stuck until my late twenties when I discovered my voice and asked to be known as David. Coincided with my discovery of swinging, fun that, maybe it was my self esteem I discovered!!
