how to put weight on ?
Jump to: Newest in thread
It's more a matter of putting weight on healthily.
Presumably you're wanting to look good (i.e. Muscle as well as extra body fat) rather than just get a gut?
There are loads of 'in shape ' guys on here who'll be able to give you tips on working out, bulking and shredding!
Hopefully one or more will be along soon! |

OP : I'd say you were slim as opposed to skinny
I'd love to be 6ft plus and slim
But nature has a funny way of fucking things up mate
Embrace what you have, maybe try to bulk up more with gym & food if it gets you down
Don't eat shit though - you can still be slim and clog your arteries up
Above all else, learn to be happy with yourself |

Instead of trying to change, embrace your image!
There's loads of people out there that love the skinny look, embrace it and dress to accentuate it, go spend some time shopping for your shape, ask assistants in shops you like the look of for advice it's their job to make you feel good.

I got a bit skinny. Giving up the hash was a good move. Also, cake and crisps, though in conjunction with a healthy diet for everything else. I'm back to my ideal weight, so yay. |

Mate don't worry and don't listen to others, there are certain body type which can't put any wait at all even if you eat for 3 people every day..
It is good to have lean and toned body, you are lucky person, so don't think ur skinny. When u reach certain age your body will start to automatically start to add mass to your body, right now you just maintain you current diet and drink lot of water.. Think about long term issues rather than ur current look.
Enjoy and be happy how you are.. |

"Meet a feeder
Sounds good to me "
It depends what they feed you.
Seriously, just adding calories randomly wouldn't be as good as a targeted weight management programme, where you could include exercise and watch macros, to gain muscle disproportionately to fat, for example.
It's likely that as you age you will gain some weight naturally, so increasing it in a focused way would be a healthier foundation imo. |

Mate
I had the sane issue in my 20's I found eat 8 meals a day and out no weight on. The minute I crossed thirty that's when i started to retain weight.
Enjoy it whilst you can as the minute your metabolism changes it's harder to lose it than you think.
Eat a healthy balanced diet, keep fit and stay away from weight gain rubbish. |

Lot's of lean calories, plenty of protein and trips to the gym but even then you may struggle.
I was in my 30s before i started putting on weight of any kind and now i have to go to a gym to fight it off in the areas i don't want it.
In fact i look like shit at the minute. |

You don't need to put weight on before building muscle.
How much do you currently eat, truthfully. Many people who moan they can't put on weight don't actually eat as much as they think.
Use myfitnesspal app for your phone to track what you're eating. If you are not gaining weight up calories by 250 per day and monitor for a few weeks. If your still not gaining increase again. A good weight gain is 1lb a month, should minimise fat gain at that rate. Weigh yourself once a week at the same time on the same day.
Mass gainers are a waste of money. Easy to make your own. Full fat milk, oats, peanut's, banana something to add a bit of chocolate flavour is cheap and easy. |

O/P it can be down to if you have a high metasilism as well. I had a high one all my life could eat loads and never really put weight on. About 10 years ago I badly damaged my knee and got put on a course of tablets to slow metabolism down, pilled weight on then. You can add weight gain protein drinks into your diet. That will help. Just remember tho it's not a quick fix, maybe join a gym as well. Hope goes well for you and most important don't let it get you down there are loads of people in similar position |

Find out your body composition, your muscle mass.
To drop fat, and/or gain muscle your daily calorie total will need to be in line with this.
2000 calories in cakes & fast food, is not going to get the same results as 2000calories of a balanced diet. |

Mate you put weight on as you train and tear muscles. Not put weight on then train for muscle, that would only be fat that will burn off anyway. Get some amino acids in you.E at a lot (healthily)and buy descent protein. drink lots of water also train hard. Ease up on the cardio tho that wont help. Good luck. |

Regarding diet. Whole Milk, Peanut Butter, Almonds, Chicken for protein. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Steak is also good in moderation. You need to eat more even if not that hungry. It will be difficult but try it for a couple of months. Good luck! |

I wouldn't recommend mammoth because it has tonnes of fructose in it. If you take it long term it could cause insulin resistance but taking one sake every other day for a short period of time is a very easy way to bulk up.

We don't need to tell him he already knows we need to inform you as you seem to misunderstand , and as such could misinform others .
Simply put , if a person wants to put muscle on they need to induce hypertrophy by supplying sufficient stress to the muscles and skeletal framework , and eating sufficient energy with a good balance of macro nutrients
As most want to get larger quicker over consumption is almost inevitable with the side effect of depositing fat as well as the desired
muscles
Becoming fat as a prelude to a weight regime is pointless and vastly counter productive |

I am 6'3" and was a bean pole when younger. You need to ensure you increase your protein intake if doing the weights. Best to Google it than explain in here it's too lengthy. If you are doing the weights then again Google a routine that fits your goal. Don't be one of those guys that bounces from one machine to another without actually doing anything, if you want to get big you should be lifting as heavy as you can until muscle failure, again Google it for a better understanding or pm. You will see gains quickly when first starting out and it is addictive if done correctly. Don't be afraid to get on the free weights instead of the cable machines. Don't be put off by the bigger guys, most will help if you ask them as we have all started somewhere. |

And whoever is saying fat turns to muscle ignore them!!! Protein builds muscle, fat will turn into fuel for your muscles if you work out long enough. Your muscles burn glycogen but it gets depleted quickly. Your body will then source energy from elsewhere ie fat but also muscle as muscle can be turned to atp - adenosine triphosphate quicker than fat! Another complicated process you don't need to concern yourself with at first. Bottom line don't gorge to get fat thinking you'll turn it to muscle.... You won't! You'll just be fat and unhealthy! Eat a balanced diet consuming at least 1.5-2g of protein per pound of body weight to increase muscle mass. |

Consume more calories than you expend.
No matter how many calories you expend (by just existing or from working out), consume a few hundred more than that. |

Some people are just destined to be skinny, no matter what they eat.
Shaggy is one of them. He's been the same size and weight since he was a teenager, his bmi puts him in the underweight category and he can't gain an ounce. I hate him sometimes lol |

"I do eat well but for some reason i never put the weight on. I am getting into weight training but i need to put weight on first before i can build all my muscles up. I have been thinking about a mass weight gainer but they are awfully expensive
Why do you need to put fat on before building muscle? That makes no sense
It's a body building thing...
You need a bit of body fat to turn in to muscle.
No you don't
Fat doesn't turn into muscle. You burn fat and build muscle
Tell that to a Frend of mine Hoos is the English champ of body bilding with 2 titalls.
I just sed wot he's told me befor.
He took steroids and other fat burning drugs.
I did too years ago and what works for a steroid user doesn't for a natural guy
No chance he wood take steroids as he don't think its rite.
And I don't think its rite ether
If as you say he has 2 titles at national level he will almost certainly be on some sort of gear, a lot of people don't talk about their use and it's understandable given the general public don't really understand it.
I've dun sum basic wate lifting and bilding. So I no a bit about it. (not a lot but a bit)
But I'm 99% Shor he is not on steroids.
Lods of protein shakes thoe
He's your mate and your free to believe that. I just don't see it knowing what I know.
I'm knocking him in any way, on gear the level of dedication and commitment is just as high to achieve those sorts of results.
Steroids aren't a magic pill that many think they are."

Stronglifts 5x5 is probably a good routine for you. Stick for compound lifts to get your strength up and you'll grow. Even with a shitty diet
But with good nutrition the skies the limit brah |
