Will there ever be justice for that poor young man?

Central

I guess the evidence was inconclusive - with a lot of people there plus drinking etc and through the night, it must be difficult to establish who - if anyone - was responsible for anything illegal. Really sad to lose a lovely young man - so very tough on his family and friends

Either a spectaculy incompetent intial police investigation, lost evidence, no scene of crime management etc

or

Actions taken to protect one or more of those there that night

Or maybe he was up to his eye balls in Coke, engaged in consensual sex and fell into a pool and drowned

All are possibilities - but if only Barrymore invested as much energy in getting to the truth of Stuart's death as he does in trying to sue people.

Nuff said, I don't want to be sued too.

Probably not, sadly XXX

He had serious internal injuries. Sounds more like sexual assault than consensual sex.

Sheffield

According to the news, Barrymores arrest was unlawful, simply because there was sufficient reason to arrest him, but the officer who had access to that information was delayed in traffic and another officer made the arrest instead.

That made it unlawful, and hence his £2.4m ( ?) compensation.

Seems odd to me...

Seems total bollocks to me. When a policeman is operating as part of a team what the hell does it matter if he's not the one acually holding the evidence in his head.

I don't get it either. I don't know if that also affected any chance of a conviction, or if it's a side issue.

He may potentially not know anything about it at all, other than what has been shared in public. It's too easy to fixate on the person there who is known to the public.

It's probably easy enough for people in a drug and alcohol environment to have less awareness and understanding of what is going on than anyone would have outside of this.

It's easy enough for an inexperienced bottom to get hurt - which I assume he was - bur throw in the other factors and it's possible that it would not end well.

Very sad for his family and friends - not good for any involved.

Crimes are left unsolved very frequently and his physical injuries could potentially have been consensually received, masked or enabled by the substances that were being consumed. At fab we know very well that people believed or claiming to be straight, often engage in sex with men.

After 16 years it is unlikely that police will find much new evidence I would assume.

All true, with good, sensible, mature and balanced views (mostly).

But, to me, it grates that Barrymore continues after so long to claim he is the injured party, rather than the poor guy who died.

It seems to me that he accepts no responsibility for the fact that a young man died at a party which he held in which illegal drugs were openly consumed.

I'm glad his shitty smug face no longer appears on our screens.

I only know that he has pursued a claim against the police force for what the judge said should be more than a nominal payment of a couple of pounds.

His legal counsel is probably not to speak more upon the matter. All of the people there were adults and whoever consumed products presumably did so of choice. There are no winners in such an awful situation - losing a child is a horror of such immense proportion that others don't generally understand. I hope his family and friends can gain greater comfort over time.
