i plead guilty to doing this.... in fact i think the further north you go, the more you do it...
people in london would think you were bonkers if you did it.. they would probably cross the road to get away from you!!! lol |

Not just walking down the street but probably would if I was stood at a bus stop or something.
But I went to Key West once and was surprised that almost everyone said hello or something when you walked past them in the street...was lovely  |

Absoloutely ! The New World Order and its agenda to break community spirit won't deter us to have values and social skills. Most people smile when the world smiles back. The class system of this nation stinks.
I do find some older members of society are a little paranoid of their generations younger.
The London thing isn,t just the South i find it's big cities as a whole, but you can't tarnish everyone with the same brush.

Well when venturing into b,ham city centre i always get an "yow alright" and "come and park ya bum here"
with a friendly smile.
Its good to go home on occasions |

I always find myself talking to complete strangers... but more so at pubs/clubs than in the street. A simple "I'm just popping outside for a ciggie" ends up taking me 20 mins because I always find someone to talk to lol |

I talk to everyone, some of the people i class now as good friends have often started with just a friendly hello.
Jay is a londer and cant understand the fact that people actually stop to have conversations in the street lol |

Didnt realize _abio was calling them miserable gits, i certainly wouldnt call jay a miserable git just because hes not used to the idea that people stop and chat.
In the city people are busy, trying to get from a to b as quick as they can at times and also maybe more warery of people, i wouldnt like people to think i thought they where miserable gits cause they didnt stop chatting |

A brief exchange of hellos over adjacent washing up bowls at a campsite led to a lasting friendship for me a few years ago.
There are lots of nice people out there who are too shy to break the ice themselves, so go for it. Is anything really bad likely to happen? Possibly but highly unlikely. |

Scots friend of mine, first time in london, struggling to co-ordinate which tube stations to change at to get to my place innocently asked a woman on the tube where was best to change lines?
He might as well of been talkin to an extra on "Shaun of the Dead", not a word, not a look, or anything.
Told him it was a tad diffrent from home,lol. |

I was in Oxfordshire last week and chatting merrily away at every checkout and being looked at as if I had two heads for doing so, at first. But then when they realise youre not a fruitloop and just friendly the ice soon melts..... it was a weird week dahn saff last week though so can understand the wariness. |

London has many Immigrants and visitors who don't speak the language.

i will talk to anyone but, depending what your talking about, they'd have to talk to me first
but if i was on a train or something and the person next to me started talking id happily chat back, but ive had some people, when trying to make conversation look at me like ive got two heads lol |

Have a habit of saying hello to people when out walking. Often get funny looks.
When with my kids they often ask "daddy do you know them" my reply is always, no, but it is always nice to let people know that you are friendly.
I did think that this is a thing that Glasgow folk do, byt I maybe wrong.
I have do it in cities all over best response has been Manchester. People there are quite friendly. Worse London, people look at me as if I was a real nutter, maybe I am.  |

the geordies are friendlybut i lived in bradford for years and they are like living in london lol.
im a brummie(someone has to be)and find people here really friendly.

How very true.
Most of my relatives are from Sheffield. You can get on a bus and most people will chat away to you, its just the way they are. Thank goodness!
I sometimes get the feeling you could drop down dead in london and people would just step over you. |

I guess there's got to be a world called swingers world where these ladies on here live lol!!!
I grew up knowing it's a good ethic to say hi, hello or morning to anyone (Friends and strangers alike), but these days, I get more of ignoring than response and hence I stopped and acted like everyone else around me.
Hence I tend to support this comment;
"I used to alot ! Then people just run away or give you that " fuck off" look."
Mean while you lots here are like strangers to me...
So for a start; Morning forumites, how were your nights?

I took an old lady across the road - she didn't want to go as it turned out but I shifted her in the end!!!! |
