We have a TV but I could happily do without one.

I'd be lost without the internet though

So it seems mostly people, that still have a TV, use the TV .. for net entertainment, rather than through the aerial.

So I wonder do you all bother with a TV licence any more if dont watch tv?

Tv is only every on for other half. It's a background noise to me, and i never have enough time to watch anything other than films on it.

And now having to create an account to watch BBC iplayer it'll be easier to link Internet connections to individuals

Reality television is a funny thing. And I'll tell you why it makes me laugh.

The criticism it gets can be quite judgemental. I'm not sure why reality is such a bad thing for television to present. Documentaries and the news claim to be reality, while still being TV shows expected to entertain.

We reward actors who can achieve a high degree of reality with plaudits and awards, yet those performances often seem to be nothing like the way real people act.

It's obvious the critics have never seen a documentary on Alpha waves. Alpha waves are connected to relaxed mental states and brain states associated with suggestibility. They're also what your television screen pumps out.

When you watch TV, brain activity switches from the left to the right hemisphere and the midbrain and the neo-cortex are shut down. The lower or reptile brain reacts to the environment using inate “fight or flight” responses. Lower brain regions can't distinguish between reality and fiction, so they react to TV as "real" and release the appropriate hormones.

The switch from left to right releases endorphins, which are structurally identical to opium and its by-products, such as morphine and heroin. Activities that release endorphins are usually habit-forming. Edward R. Morrow wasn't wrong when he said television may be the opiate of the masses.

Too much time in this low Alpha wave state can cause unfocussed daydreaming and inability to concentrate. Researchers say it's like staring at a blank wall for several hours.

So it's funny that it makes no difference what you're watching. The documentary about shark poo eroding the barrier reef is having the same effect on the critics as watching "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" and "Big Brother."

All tv is trash so just enjoy it for what it is. Or don't.

Well, it made me laugh.

is it not that you only need a licence if you watch 'live' tv like the lottery or live sports? if its pre recorded why would you need one or did the bbc move the goal posts on that one?

They move the goal posts when they put live tv on iplayer. So if you have it installed there is live tv content available to you

"Good program on bbc2 tonight at 9.00 about kim wong.un.and north korea. "

I watched something on bbc1 around a week back...was about a nurse who bluffed her way into being a doctor.

Can't remember the name of it or when it's back on.

Could anyone enlighten me please?
