"Terry Pratchetts Discworld series
I have heard of Discworld before so should be good
There's about 40 books in the series so should keep you going for a while if you get into them "
I read the last Harry Potter book in about 24hrs don't think I'll accomplish that this time lol |

Entangled by Graham Hancock.
His non-fiction alternative history books are fantastic but his first foray into novels is a great mix of history, human story and demons running through time and space. Great read. |

Not sure if you're into graphic novels but I've just finished 'From Hell' by Alan Moore. Its his take on the Jack The Ripper murders and it's absolutely gripping, shocking stuff. Conspiracy theorists should have a field day with it.
And it has as much depth as any novel believe me.

Is that the story which formed the basis for the Johnny Depp movie of the same name? |

It is but they have very little in common. In fact I think Alan Moore had his name taken off the film credits as it was so different. The book is far grittier, bleaker, and more disturbing. If they'd been faithful to the book then hardly anyone would have watched the film probably!

I don't watch Vikings actually but there's another with that same concept that I like called the last kingdom. |

If you enjoy epic fantasy/sci-fi stuff I would recommend you look at Stephen Donaldson's Thomas Covenant series - they've been around a while and don't often get mentioned in threads like this, but for me they're up there with stuff like Dune and far more readable than Tolkein.
Also, as someone above mentioned, Iain M Banks' Culture series is definitely worth checking out, the guy was a genius. But personally I always preferred him without the 'M'. |

Currently reading. I'm travelling alone - Samuel bjork. I've created a bit of a book list and thrown genres out of the window and read things I thought I'd hate but loved instead. Always worth looking outside the comfort zone |

Presently I am rereading Thomas H Burgoyne's the light of Egypt, the science of the soul and the stars Vol 1&2. A work of great import that I would not only recommend but implore everyone to read whether they have an interest in hermetic wisdom and western spirituality or not, for as long as the mind is as it should be, open and inquisitive then much profit will be derived from doing so |

In that case, not an autobiography or even biography exactly, but I'd recommend Dame Francis Yates: Giordano Bruno and the hermetic tradition. A brilliant look into a brilliant forgotten man |

There and to the left a bit |
For something completely different and a bit off the wall but an utterly compelling read all the same try The Bees by Laline Paul - it's the story of a beehive told from the perspective of a bee.
Sounds weird but is actually very good |

If you like Sci-fi, and have a Kindle, try The Breakers Series by Edward W Robertson. It's like Independence Day and The Fifth Wave movies but a LOT better. There's 8 books and over 2000 pages, so should keep you entertained for a while! |

Just killed the thread with all that occident occultism, but hey, if its something lighter you wish for then you couldn't go wrong fiction wise with Ron Hansen's, the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert ford. A True classic that transcends its genre, thanks both to the appeal of the legendary antihero and the authors captivating and evocative portrayal of the James gang and the wonderful prose its brought to page with.. The movie adaptation is pretty bloody good too |

"I like Lee Child, have read the Jack Reacher series, very good. X
I do like jack reacher, the bourne series also"
If you like them I recommend:
Jack Ryan by Tom Clancy
Mitch Rapp by Vince Flynn
Court Gentry by Mark Greaney
All of the books I've read from each of those series have been excellent.
Since you like sci-fi the Travis Chase series and Runner by Patrick Lee are both quite good too. |

"If you like Andy mcnab books you'd love Chris Ryan's. They were in the same team at one point too and Chris write a book about it."
Read the book by their RSM at the time.. he didn't think they were that great a team.
If you want decent war stories then look up the SAS in Oman
Or Para Regiment in Kajiki
Those stories will put hairs on your chest. |

Well I wouldn't go to the barricades about it (and I enjoyed the tv series), but I thought people who didn't know the book would have found it slow to start and rather chaotic in its storytelling, it departed radically from the book and I thought Ricky Whittle was miscast as Shadow Moon. Would have preferred someone like Lance Reddick (The Wire) in the role (well a younger version). Would love to see a tv version of Neverwhere. I didn't see the BBC version. |

Not yet but it's on the list. I've gotten into Alan Moore shamefully late but I have read 'V for Vendetta' which I loved and I've got a compilation of his DC stuff (quite entertaining, but i'm not hugely into superheroes). I recently read his biography which was fascinating and opened my eyes to what a vast body of work there is to sink my teeth into, and I've got his latest novel 'Jerusalem' waiting for me at the library. It's longer than 'War & Peace' though so that's me sorted for the next few months!

Y'see I knew nothing of Neil Gaiman before watching AG but I'm definitely interested in reading his work after seeing it. I agree with the chaotic storytelling comment, half way into the series I was still wondering just where it was going, but I think it overcame that just by being ridiculously entertaining! Visually stunning, darkly humorous, and well acted. Thought the Hollyoaks dude was pretty good in it actually.

I still haven't seen bbc's neverwhere, now I think about it their attempt escaped without me ever having read any reviews or really heard anything about it.
I agree with you about the chaotic nature being a departure from the book, but I thought that made for a far more intriguing and unravelling of the story and, perhaps it was not an issue for me for having read the book, but I liked that the path was not clear and the destination not at all obvious. It is a strange approach as the producers of it seem to want it to be big time viewing for the masses, but the haphazard, trippy telling is balanced well with a lot of chic pornography(tits and blood) to keep the unfamiliar, average TV watcher interested.. But lance reddick/cedric Daniels as shadow moon?! Great actor but I think Ricky whittle is fine, if anything they should have got the guy that played Marlo black to beef up a little and cast him |

Agree with most of that. Very erotic at times too. I think I'd been looking forward to it so much and recommended it to so many people after ep1 that I was disappointed when it wasn't quite as I'd hoped. |
