I wonder if any of you can help me. I have been a council tenant in Peterborough for the past 14 years in a two bed flat with two children I cant get back on the wait list because I can't prove that I am English no passport you see. Plus I don't qualify for an upgrade until my eldest daughter is 16.
Was looking online perhaps further afield near Birmingham wink, wink and I have been accepted on the waiting list for both Wolverhampton and Solihull. So what I am after is a bit of advice on areas. The good areas that is. |

I have never ever had to provide my passport.. for simple reason I dont have one either.
I was also told that my girls could not share and have been told I need a 4-5 bed house...
I cant advise on area.. but you should be able to go on your local list... I know they ask for proof of who you are on many lists..( used to help people fill out applications) but your birth certificate will prove you were born here..
I would write a letter to your local mp..and I always found in the past that helped..
Good luck..and as much as I like visiting Brum area I would never move there... inner city isnt for me.

being half scottish, full NI, etc, ive been scottish since 6mths old...never had to have a passport when i was an army kid , but because i was born abroad i still have to prove my nationality...some naturalisation test lol...am not fucking paying for it lol...but ffs i havent been outta britain since i was 4yrs old lolol |

you could get a copy of your birth certificate to prove your birthplace.waiting lists are hopeless you would do much better going on a housing swop site theres a few online like homeswopper that are free if your council is registered with them |

I can get one lol but they are so expensive and not planning any trips abroad. I have my birth certificate but they did'nt accept it they wanted the long version instead. I have lived in Peterborough for the past 33 years and am bored with it and looking for new adventures and Opportunities and they are not going to happen in Peterborough not just for me but for my family too. I can either exsist in Peterborough or start living. Have felt like this for sometime. And just putting wheels in motion. It wont be for a couple of years because A I need to save B starting college c my daughter will be choosing her GCSE options this year. So I have a three year plan get my teaching assistant qualifications, save and then move when Rosie has finished her GCSE she has been looking at Birmingham University my youngest will be ready for moving to senior school seems the perfect time. Like I say for a better quality of life. |

Doesn't sound like this has much to do with waiting lists but more to do with your aspirations.

Solihull is ok, and some parts of Wolves are ok too.
If I were you I would try and spend some time in each place.
Kate grew up on a council estate in Wolves, and it's a decent one too, in fact most of it is private now.
Solihull is sometimes referred to as the posh part of Brum, and I don't think there are too many rundown areas there.

Ive lived my whole life in birmingham. Some nice areas and some bad 1s like most cities. You need to avoid Aston, Lozzels, Necheels but if you have a choice it would be solihull every day. |

If you have lived in your property for over 12 months can you not apply for a home swap ?
No waiting list, just have to find someone in the area you want with a property your after who is looking to move to were you are at present ! |

Yes am checking all my options and it is exciting. But you can read about a place or I can actually ask people who have been there or lived there. And have spent time in Wolverhampton the odd weekends lol. Never been to Solihull looks fab though. And yes aspiration is a big thing and I want my children to have every possibility open to them and its not here in Peterborough. |

I lived in bham until 1994 and its a great place ,there are some "down at heel" places like everywhere ,Solihull is fine but Chelmsley Wood is also classed as Solihull and it did have a pretty poor reputation years ago-I worked in Solihull town centre for years-but I dont know if its still as bad these days.I dont know the whys and wherefores of being a council tenant so cant comment on that.will you be able to relocate with work easily? |

At the moment I am working within a school and children's centre plus starting college in September training as a teaching assistant so don't think it will be a problem finding work. Just putting everything into place. I am a lucky one have only been out of work once and that's when my youngest was first born. Have worked up in children's centre now looking for new challenges. |

If you are looking at working in a school then chose somewhere that gives you the most options. I would be looking at somewhere between birmingham and wolverhampton. Lots of options to work east south north and west of where you live. Solihull and northern wolverhampton are on the peripheries of the population centres. Nicer places to live on the whole but you will increase your travelling times. |
