Why is that so hard to understand? Every time I go out with vanilla friends, it ends with them trying to make me join them on a dance floor. Why can't they just leave me alone? |

I don't know!
Have you tried punching them in the throat? |

I'm sorely tempted, but I was brought up not to raise my hand to a woman. |

There is no "give in". It's not a choice. I don't dance. If I try, my body freezes up. |

I believe that would be called sexual assault. |

I don't dance! I have all the balletic skills and movements of an Arthritic, four left footed Hippopotamus.
In 1992, the year of my failed wedding, I attended a Dance School before the Big Day, so I could at least get some basic dance moves covered.
The Instructor said after only 2 sessions, "if we spent teaching you for 24 hrs a day, 365 days a year for 100 years, you might become 1% capable of dancing. You cannot dance to save your life!"
Suited me then and still is! |

"Most of them can't dance either, they just don't care it's the alcohol. "
I rarely drink, so I have absolutely no excuse for looking like I am being electrocuted, to the sound of Gangnam Style.
If ever I get to that stage, please shoot me... |

That's just how some cats look at us. |

We go to a Christmas "do" with food and music. A neighbour said they would like to come with us next time. The lady asked me (f) if I dance, when I said no she replied "you will if I come with you" ...needless to say they won't be coming with us.
Why on earth do people think that because they enjoy something we should all enjoy it. |

I love dancing. I think people try to get their friends to dance because dancing is a social activity and people think the only reason you're not dancing is because you're embarrassed. Because no one cares what someone looks like dancing they then try to persuade you to dance on the assumption that you actually enjoy it as much as them but are just worried about what you look like.
The reality is that there are people who just don't enjoy dancing and it has nothing to do with being embarrassed about their dance moves. This is why I never try to make people dance who don't want to. Although I'm more likely to go out with people who will dance with me |

I always imagine everyone looking like tools if there were no music.
I tend to go to pubs to watch live bands. Too busy propping up the bar and getting pissed, to dance. |

".....its because you have lovely friends and they want you to join in "
What's lovely about it? I understand that they're trying to include me, and I do appreciate them making an effort to do so, but can't they see that it makes me feel profoundly uncomfortable to constantly be having to say no? Why would a friend do that? |

The older I get, the more I enjoy dancing; it's good for the soul (if you enjoy it; obviously).
I also play music and watch people dance as a result. That's pretty flipping good for the soul too . |

I enjoy dancing in the kitchen, on my own, where no one can see (not even any cats to sit in judgement). But out in public, the best I can ever do is some awful, cringey, embarrassing dad dancing. So I try not too. |

I said your friends were lovely for trying to include you....maybe they don't want to leave you on your own?? |

I love music, and love dancing (usually in private) but everything has to feel 'right' for me to dance in public as I otherwise get horribly self conscious and panicky about it. I wish I didn't but I often do and can't help it. There's nothing worse when people won't take no for an answer, think they know what's going on in my head better than I do and literally drag me onto a dance floor. It actually makes me very angry because conversely I'd never try to stop someone dancing. |

Because dancing is fun whether you are shit or not, if there are 6 of you out and 5 dancing you are left stood on there own, so maybe 1 they don't want to leave you stood on your own and want you to be part of the fun, 2 maybe you been stood looking to them 2 bit boring makes them feel bad for going off and leaving you stood on your own like some loner, so they are just trying to include you
For me i love dancing and usually end up leaving lucy to hold the drinks while I smash it out on the dance floor |

I avoid it if I can. I don't mind slow dancing but I get a boner when I do that. In a panic I think of shopping or other chores.
I probably look like I'm out of The Inbetweener movie when I do dance |

It would be ruder still to say yes then just stand there because you can't make your body move. |

I very nearly punched a friend in the face last night. |

"If you don't dance why go to a place where dancing is the main purpose of being there?"
Good point. Sometimes its almost unavoidable. Company Christmas do for example, branded as unsociable if you don't go and dull and boring if you do but decline to dance
I wouldn't go to dancing lessons and refuse to dance though. I just wouldn't go. |

Because it was my friend's birthday and I didn't want to be the one who bailed out early. |

Same here. It's very irritating as people try to pressure me into dancing whilst I'm having a panic attack. I don't want to dance.

That is ridiculous advice, if OP is uncomfortable dancing, how is he going to do it with an erection! Unless it is the old John Travolta style, one hand covering erection, the other pointing to sky! |

Years ago I was invited to a dancing class. I am 6ft 2 and only like petite women about 5ft 3. I walked into the class and about thirty 6ft women were smiling at me. I shouted out "Taxi for Mr Jones?" and ran. I am still running. |
