now that the roof is "on" it keeps the sound in...
my sis and my niece were lucky enough to get tickets for last night and she said last night was louder than "super saturday"
she also got tickets for next saturday night......
this is one of those things were even though the stadium holds less and its now a football ground, there isn't a bad seat in the house and the places gets loud!
so glad that athletics has got a 50 year lease on the stadium... and hopefully it holds more championships to come..... |

"Wonderful to see the lap of honour with his family "
Mo is on another level. Totally dominating and orchestrating all his races with style.
#motime
And then you have bolt...
Even after a slow start, a little stumble... he looks over and realises he is not infront so what does he do...
Jogs a little faster to finish 1st WOW top athlete!

"Well it's London....every thing is set in London ....
Really?
And where else would these championships be held, anyway? "
the problem is any stadium in uk that could have held it gets turned into a football stadium..... manchester for example! glasgow got turned into an athletics stadium and then they turned it back!
birmingham and liverpool are due to be competing for the commonwealth games... lets see what they do.... |

I, for one, am extremely glad to have had the commonwealth Stadium in Manchester converted
But the "warm up" track is still an 8000 seat athletics stadium abd there's an excellent 200m indoor facility too as part of the legacy
And let's face it, you don't even get that many people coming to a track meet at Birmingham or Crystal Palace |

Erm it's an international meeting the competitors have their country name emblazoned alongside their event number....
Really do I have to explain everything ...

Not overly convincing from the great man. As always though, he's done what was needed to get through while appearing to be quite relaxed ahead of the final. |

I'm not sure if I can watch the final....
He's done so much for the sport it would be a tragedy if he got beat in his last race .......

There are such amazing looking women. Those crop tops have also revealed the amazing variety of belly button shapes on display. There was an awesome outie amongst the 1500m runners. |

He received a ban in 2001, for amphetamines, which he said were part off his ADD medicine from childhood.
He then received an 8 year ban in 2006, for testosterone steroids, reduced to 4 years for cooperation with the US doping commission |

Usain Bolt, people's champion this time rather than champion on track. |

Bolt has had an amazing career and inspired all over the world...
That's how I'll think of him...
He got beat by a faster man on the day.....
My feeling towards Gatlin's involvement in the race echo most peoples.... he simply shouldn't have been there and had he been given a lifetime ban the world would be celebrating the end of Bolts amazing career and embracing the tremendous achievement of Christian Coleman... |

"If ever there was a prime example of a lifetime ban badly needed for drug cheats ........."
remember that the BOA use to have that it in place but it was struck down by CAS for being too harsh......
I think that because the UK has probably the most anti drug stance in sport of any country... thats why the booing took place....
will be interesting to see what happens for the medal ceremony tonight.... i think there should not be any booing... but just a wall of silence when his name is announced would get the message across and be such a british thing to do! |

"I'd love to see the whole crowd turn their backs on him and be silent.
Or drown out the US anthem with chants of 'Usain, Usain, Usain'."
Agree on the first part but not the second, Coleman is American and doesn't deserve to have his achievement associated with booing their anthem..

Excellent news. I feel sorry for the others though, they raced clean through their careers and deserve their moment on the podium in front of a full house. They've been denied that by a cheat who's never even shown any remorse. |

I think Gatlin's achievement to come back from adversity at the age of 35 is remarkable and I am ashamed of the crowd and the BBc reporting. This should be celebrated as a man redeeming himself, not drowned in hatred. |

I've got no hatred for the man, I just believe that he shouldn't have even been competing. The same goes for any drugs cheat, I wish the authorities had the powers to make life bans stick. |

I doubt the enhancing effect of drugs is much compared to the advantages derived by athletes whose countries put eye-watering amounts of money into the pursuit of olympic medals over those from nations without money to waste on hubris.
Gatlin has been drugs free for a decade and has overcome the odds to beat the favourite by dint of hard work - he should be an inspiration. |

i think they were actually quite smart to put the jess ennis-hill medal upgrade ceremony on before this because i think it took a lot of the sting out of the occasion....
the problem is where there are various drug cheats out there competing in these championships... gatlin became in effect the poster boy
the one i felt really uncomfortable last night was christian coleman... because it became all about bolt and gatlin... and he was kinda forgotten..
I think it was interesting how the bbc dealt with it in the pre broadcast and now... |

When entry level sport relies so much on corporate sponsorship and philanthropic donation all those drugs cheats are risking the supply of that funding because potential benefactors don't wish to be associated with a corrupt sport,,,,

I was lucky enough to have tickets for last night and other than the main event of course the highlights were the streaker (which was hilarious!) and in the women's 10,000m the Ethiopian Ayana absolutely destroyed the field in a masterclass of long distance running. It really was incredibly impressive! |

Inspiration? What I personally think he should have done was to be an inspiration in schools and sport on how not to behave. Show his shame and sorrow at his behaviour by giving talks about how his life took the wring path. He should have been banned from competing for life. I do believe people deserve second chances, absolutely, but 3rd chances?
Nope. I don't think drug cheats in sport deserve a 2nd chance though. Drug cheating in sport is like the ultimate kick in the balls for the rules and other competitors. Complete disrespect.
I also thought Dwayne Chambers should have never been allowed back on a track, so it's not a biased opinion based on what country the offender is from. |

Yeah it does sound nuts. The stories from both sides are so far from each other it defies belief.
Not sure how they let him compete last night if they claim he's been sick/showing symptoms since Sunday |

Isaac Makwala - great athlete!
No matter what has been thrown at him he just won't give up. He really wanted the 400m and he keeps saying he is heart broken because it was taken away from him.
200m final is going to be really tough, but Makwala is angry! He really wants that gold now |

He's been having a ago at the media about those unfounded historical news items
Id have much rather seen him happy and taking the oppertunity celebrate a magnificent career ,,,,
Perhaps having what it takes to be a winner makes it difficult to accept anything but the win...

News commentators kept saying Farah's association with Salazar tainted his career, yet Seb Coe's right hand man had to resign because of bribes over Russian doping and the awarding of the 2021 World Championships to Eugene, home of Nike, is being investigated by the FBI. Seb Coe is an ambassador for Nike and is paid handsomely for being so. |

"News commentators kept saying Farah's association with Salazar tainted his career, yet Seb Coe's right hand man had to resign because of bribes over Russian doping and the awarding of the 2021 World Championships to Eugene, home of Nike, is being investigated by the FBI. Seb Coe is an ambassador for Nike and is paid handsomely for being so."
I thought it hugely ironic Sebastian Coe presented Justin Gatlin with his Gold medal.....

well the medal target was 6-8.... and GB have got to 6....
so..... with the youngsters taking over and the 5 other 4th place finishes...... i suppose you could call it a good championships...
also.... London has once again proved itself to be a great "championship" holding city....
I know the IAAF would love to come back on a more regular basis....
the european outdoors hasn't been held in the UK for a generation...
also... i think london should seriously look at a commonwealth games bid, the infrustructure is there so you wouldn't need to spend anymore on venues..... and you know the people would absolutely get behind it.... |
