The North Wind and the Sun

Aesop was a very wise man, if he ever existed that is, either way the fables attributed to him are problem solving and generally feature animals and inanimate objects. The North Wind and the sun is my favourite. The moral of the story being that a more gentle approach in many situations will be most effective. I've experienced many situations that make me think of this fable. The Fab forum being a prime example, I regularly see the "north wind" approach but it rarely achieves anything, other than discord and divide.
What would you say your approach is to situations, the "North Wind" or the "Sun"?
Do you think that on some occasions adopting the opposite approach may have worked better?
Do you think different situations require different approaches? |

It's been a long week. But in summary, yes.
To the last 2 questions. Not sure which is which for the first 2 - if the sun is the gentler approach I mostly use this. But sometimes the Wind.

Hmm, I tend to adopt the sun approach to most things, there have been times I should have been more of the north wind but that would bring me to their level and I don't agree with that.
Does it make me a fool, well in some people's eyes maybe but I know I can sleep at night with a clear conscience. I've also witnessed the sun people turned on by the north wind and then I want to unleash that side of me so yes there are times when I really should have changed the way I dealt with that incident. X |

i used to love that book. gonna go look on ebay in a minute now.
i'm neither really, don't feel like forcing people to do anything nor persuading them. think i'm the leaf that drifted through the story unnoticed. |

Poor old Aesop didn't really explain that the north wind approach can also work at times. But if there was one method that always worked, we'd have noticed by now and we'd all be doing it. |
