Do you make an effort for your smear, like aside from giving it a wash and a blast with the shower, do you shave it or just go as you are. I'm 6 o clock shadow with around a weeks worth of stubble!
Fuck this is ridiculous. |

I used to be a midwife and we in the medical profession take absolutely no notice of the state of your vagina. Its just a job and your nurse practioner won't be looking at it to find it attractive she will be looking at it to perform the procedure. So if you can't be bothered don't shave. |

I actually worry more about how gorilla like my legs may or may not be. And then I give my head a good shake and think the only thing that matters is getting a potentially life saving procedure done when it should be. |

I know it's bloody scary isn't it, when you think of Jade Goody.
Shit I'm getting all nervous now, Jesus. What do they do again. I'm gonna google it. |

I'm quite sure the health professionals don't go for an after work drink and say 'you'll never guess what! I saw a patient today and it must have been at least 2 days since she shaved her foof! I couldn't believe it!!' so you'll be fine! |

I don't bother how it looks for smears or checks at the clinic. As long as it's clean it doesn't matter.
What matters is that you go and have it done!! I had mine in June and when the results came back it wasn't good!!! Had a colposcopy on Monday and cells lazered and biopsy.
My cervix now looks like a burnt marshmallow and I'm out of action for two weeks.
It's very frustrating but I'd rather go without than have cancer.
Good luck op |

"I shave mine every day, so no extra effort needed "
Great to know
On another note I don't think as above really, they just will be professional and get what they need to do done. Shame you don't get a lolly pop after |

That can be a little bit of a problem. |

Medical professionals know that humans have bodily hair.
They got their education from the correct manuals. Not viz or playboy.
Just don't smell like week old horse shit.
The good thing is they won't be looking at your face or recognise you in the pub. |

If it makes you more comfortable to remove your hair first then go for it but it really isn't necessary. The nurse will have seen every conceivable "style" on women over the years and it won't matter to them.
One thing that is worth noting though is don't have unprotected sex in the 24hrs beforehand (which of course none of us here do lol). Even if you bathe thoroughly there can still be some "debris" up near your cervix. This can mean your results can be unclear and you may need to go back for another smear. |

Please please please ladies, get your smear tests booked in regularly, and don't forget to pester female friends and family to do the same. They really do save lives. My mum is proof that missing them could mean a bad outcome. My mum missed hers and was later diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer, sadly we lost her 9months later.
So ladies, don't worry about how you look, just get yourself checked.xx

Back, all done and nothing to worry about, she liked the nail polish on my toes and commented on my tan lines on my feet from my flip flops. Said I've got a nice spongey cervix and then I was on my way! Results in 6 weeks so hopefully will be normal. |

Haha I've had that sprung on me too a few times. To be fair it was better that way as I didn't have chance to worry about it. I hate having it done and can get a little anxious about it. |

I was there Friday for an std test and she said oh we'll do it now, I was like no no, it's booked for the 2nd I only came here for bloods and to put the earbud up there myself! Results from that were all negative as well so have a fresh clean fanny and hopefully normal cells too! Feel like I've had a mot.
Also this thread has prompted 3 women to book their smears which is a good thing. |

Well done op for bringing this up.
I think it's something we should do once a month to encourage every woman to get it done.
It's painless and lasts for a few seconds and it's done. Hopefully for most it will be fine and you won't have to think about it again for another 3 years.
