It's not often I visit hospitals and when I do it's never for me personally. But having spent the night in a&e with my partner I can't fault them whatsoever, the staff are incredible and it's great watching them all at work caring for the patients, especially when they are all under so much strain. And to think we get these treatments for free makes you think just how lucky we are to have this service. So to anyone here in the medical profession, thank you for your hard work and just generally being amazing |

It's not free though. We pay for it in taxes, and the funding is not limitless.
We also get education, emergency services, social care etc.

Well said. The NHS should be much better but these 'angels' shouldn't have to try and patch it up.
Give them more money and build more hospitals.
Have a Google about 'Parking fines UWHC'.
The main car park is privately run. They issued 8000 staff parking permits for 2000 staff parking spaces. Some of the staff have to pay £1000s back in fines now.
12 hour shifts? Violence? Waiting time targets? Under paid? Uni fees to pay back? And in our staffs case this parking fiasco.
Why would you go to the effort to do all the training to be shit on like this.

Oh I am, have been saving for years for the day the NHS is sold off. I just feel for those who are already poor"
The NHS is a splendid service. Scaremongering stories in the press about privatisation usually relate to services being subcontracted for efficiency measures.
Previous and current governments claim to have increased spending, but they fail to take into account the increased population, demands and expectations into that spending.
Sad fact is, yes we all need to pay a little more if we want service. It doesn't run in thin air. |

The american comparison is a strawman since they rank 42nd in the world for healthcare, which is pathetic.
The dimensions you would assess healthcare on are universality, quality and affordability - you can have 2 but the 3rd will always allude you. The NHS has affordability and universality. It doesn't rank well on quality, usually around 18th in the world. That's nothing to do with lack of effort or skill of it's front line people though. These are just facts.
On a personal level i detest the NHS because the only time I've ever really needed them, they misdiagnosed me and i was put in a lot of danger. I also have a close friend who is permanently disabled because of an unrelated misdiagnosis. Thankfully my experience does not seem to be representative. |

The NHS didn't misdiagnose you. Individuals may have done but you can't just generalise it to the whole NHS. As it employs more people than any other industry the chances of variation in certain standards is going to be there. However on the whole, the standard is excellent. |

Tried to get a appointment at my doctors this morning, after trying to get through for 32 minutes when open was told no appointment left and I can't make appointments at moment.
So I dont know when I can see a doctor |

OP, hope your partner is ok now. We have had a lot of experience over the years with a&e and they have been excellent. They all work so hard and are so dedicated to their vocations. They deserve to be paid far more than they are!  |

If you read the last line you see i explicitly didn't generalise.
The standard is not excellent, it's ranked about 18th in the world depending on which rankings you go to. The ranks where the NHS does best focus on cost, not outcomes. |

We voted in a government that has cut funding in real terms to this vital service and it is a world leader - continue to do this and wait for the Conservatives to push towards the American insurance style of system which is abysmal.
Cherish it and fight for it, whatever the right wing media pushes you to want. |

Thank you, she is still in agony but no broken pelvis/spine like we feared so was a happy result. I agree with you, they definitely deserved to be paid more. |

The privatization of aspects of what used to be a state funded NHS is about budget hiding, take it from capital budget and spend more actual money from current budget to pay a cleaning company for example, means that despite spending more actual £ the annual accounts for the government look lower to the IMF.
It's a smoke and mirrors game, in which all logic tells you that we are losing but the accountants tell you we are winning...
As for the car parking fiasco, many workers can no longer park at their place of work, best use the bus! I do have sympathy for some hospital workers, but they are not that badly paid. And often don't work very hard for what they get. |
