Comedy is very subjective....most comedy come from personal experiences that the comedian has lived though or a friend has lived through.
The skill is in writing the joke/story then making it relatable to their audience.
It just got me wondering who's your favorite...it might be hard to select just one. So pick a few. |

Billy Connolly. I was lucky enough to go and see him live last year. I used to play cassettes of his gigs in my car on the way to work years ago. I probably used to get so many funny looks from other drivers as I laughed in my car
Others : Mickey Flannagan, Lee Mack and Danny Bhoy (off to see him at the end of the year) |

"Peter kaye"
Saw him in Manchester last night of his tour...
He raised a massive sum for Christies Hospital that night
made my sides ache laughing...
But he's just a guy playing a double shovel
There's got to be Billy Connelly on anyone's list simply the best..

I once warched Michael Mcintyre on Graham Norton talk about a video his kids had made on holiday. Now as a comedian he never really struck me as that funny, but the way he told the story had me in stitches on my sofa for 10 minutes. I was borderline hysterical. Tears were pouring.
Anyway, I like comedy that is dry, sarcastic and observational stuff. Jokes as such do nothing for me.
Jasper Carrot and Dave Allen were what i was brought up on. Billy Connelly too but in truth i don't find him that funny. |

Bill hicks was one of the original people that got me into comedy...
Pryor... Murphy.... Chris rock and kevin hart
Dave chapelle is in a class of his own, chappelles show might have been the best 2 and a bit seasons Comedy Central have ever put out!
When people are still clamouring for a season 3 12years later you know you were good

Greg Davies I think is my fave, his nicknames bit of his stand up has me crying. Off to see him in Nov, can't wait.
Also Rhod Gilbert, Frankie Boyle, Jim Jeffries and recently Louis CK.
Could do with some new recommendations actually so will peruse the thread for ideas |

Glad people are enjoying Frankie Boyle.
Here are the writers from his latest T.V. series.
Catherine Bohart, Dan Evans, James Farmer, Sarah Morgan, Shaun Pye, Christine Rose, Charlie Skelton, Aiden Spackman and others
Note that 40% are women.
He delivers the lines well though. |

Bill Hicks routine about using old people as stunt doubles in Chuck Norris films is one of the funniest and best delivered you'll ever hear. |

I've never wished that Bill was still alive quite as much as I do now...he'd be having a field day with the Trump Administration! |

Stand ups yes.
Today’s comedy just isn’t funny.
They are trying too hard to script it rather than getting the kick that comes with ad lib.
Each to their own as in all things but couldn’t stand Little Britain, Matt Lucas and David Walliams just aren’t funny. |

"Joey Diaz, Doug Stanhope, Ralphie May, Bill Burr, Dave Chapelle"
have to say i have so much respect for bill burr just because he basically burns thru material at such a rate.... the podcast he does is a brilliant, but 4 hrs of topical stuff each week is insane....
and for all of those who have said jim jeffries... i hope you are all watching his new show on comedy central...... think of it as his spin on the john oliver/samantha bee type show... it is brilliant!!!! |
