Currently looking to invest in a decent watch. Seen a beautiful Tag that I'll most likely buy, anyone else appreciate a good watch?
I am looking at other watch manufacturers but they don't seem to have the same appeal other than Breitlings. |

"Yes but only because I'm obsessed with time "
It's a strange paradigm. Seems to speed and slow dependant on circumstances, if only we knew how to manipulate it. |

I do like a nice watch, several I'd like to but.
Don't buy a TAG,it will be worth 50p in a week. A used omega or similar would be a better choice, at least if you want to sell it you'll get most of your money back.

The tag would be my everyday watch. If i were to buy a cartier or similar it would sit in a draw for the next twenty years as it would increase in value more than almost anything else. |

I spent a career working alongside guys who treated their designer watches like penis extensions so no I wouldn't be tempted to own one ....
I used to regularly travel through Dubai airport where the temptation to buy something really special as an investment was any easy option ....
But instead of doing that this chump bought an export only model Professional Seiko Divers watch for the equivalent of about £120 just because it looked chunky .......
3 months later both main pointers wouldn't budge from 06:30...
Makes a good paperweight ...

I'm not being ungrateful as it was probley a lot of money and I love my mom and dad more than the world but I would of preferred a normal watch that I can wear and keep at my house lol x |

I always used to buy cheap watches and sometimes a fake from hols in Turkey, Thailand, etc but they all used to last about 6 months - i would usually scratch them to bits or they would break. My wondeful bro gave me an Omega Seamaster 3 years ago and it's never gone wrong and does not get scratched. I wear it every day and love it! |

Not many purchases these days last. A watch will more often outlive a generation or more. Great potential heir looms. I like the idea of me having years use out of a good watch and when I have kids and they are looking to buy a house they could pay a big chunk of it off with the watches value alone. |

No offence OP but Tags are so yawn. I don't know what you budget is, but I'd go with something with a bit more character.

It's quite amazing how light they are considering their durability. And lucky you, that's most definitely a well thought out graduation present. |

I don't have that choice lol and o know he will give it to me eventually when he thinks I'm a responcible adult lol but i want to keep it here NOW not lock it away in there safe as its my Christmas present.
I'm going to buy him a vintage bottle of whisky this Christmas and let him smell it and then take it off him and say I'm keeping that at my house under lock and key hahahahaha x |

All down to personal choice and budget
I owned a brietling for years , loved it but sold it when I needed some money
Quality watches will always be worth money but it means spending £3k plus
A tag is an everyday watch but not worth much second hand just like a seiko ! But fine to wear everyday
Depends on what you want ?? More importantly budget !!!
A timex digital will tell the time , but looks crap compared to a Rolex sea master , but costs less than the cost of the Rolex box ! |

Got a tag aquaracer with the blue face and bezel - really heavy and chunky and looks great.
Got a tag F1 that I wear most days
And just bought a tudor black bay with a red bezel - I'm in love with it.
Tags do deprecate but so do breitling. The tag aquaracers look fantastic, especially with the chronograph.
If you want breitling but it second hand, most things in the breitling shop start around £3000, there's plenty of brietlings you can pick up for half that or just over.
Or take a look at tudor, they are some of the best watches in that price range.
Personally I find omega a bit dull, I'd probably only have the planet ocean with the quarter orange bezel.
I'll be leaving buying anything now for a couple of years, totally eying up "the hulk" submariner in 2019 though. |

I am a TAG watch owner myself which I bought it back January 2001 and it's pretty much my everyday watch and still going strong.
Personally I don't see the point buying an expensive watch to invest and kept in the drawer, you will be missing the enjoyment and pride wearing it and with that attitude you must be nervous wearing it in fear damaging it, etc.....
If you can afford it whatever your budget is if it's £1K or £5K watch, you are better off wearing and enjoy it, life is short to miss out the pleasure wearing it.

That's what I want a tag for, anything more expensive would be purely an investment for the future as oppose to buying it to wear. |

I have a Temption - German brand with decent Swiss mechanisms. Mines called a Cameo:
http://www.temption-watches.de/en/cameo_en.html
I like the slightly 1930s style, and that it doesn't have that "check out my MASSIVE EXPENSIVE WATCH!!!" vibe to it. I don't think people notice it or, if they do, hopefully they just appreciate that it looks nice. |

I don't understand the fixation or perceived kudos that comes from a pricey watch.
As an investment, yes, but then again if it were an investment, I'd be scared to wear it cos I'm great at breaking things. |

Just about to buy a nice one
Buy a special edition if u can, vintage is all the go at mo
Omega Professional speedmaster 2nd hand will always out value a tag, get a limited edition and it will increase in value, a tag has to be quite special to increase in value |

I'm a watchmaker and I'd say what I say to everyone who asks "What watch should I buy?"
If you're looking for an everyday wear, buy the one you like for the money you can afford. You're the one who gets to look at it all day every day.
Knowing what's 'under the bonnet' of many prestige watches would make certain people weep!
An investment watch is a very different matter. Right now, a Patek Philippe Nautilus is as good as cash |
