Curvy, Ample, Fabulous... what's the difference?
Jump to: Newest in thread
Looking at profiles it's often difficult to know what the hell the difference is between Curvy, Ample and Fabulous... the last being the most difficult to quantify.
Anyone else want to chip in on this and give some definitions what they believe these descriptions mean in actuality? |

Usually dependent on how the person feels about themselves I would think x |

The difference is how you perceive others & how they perceive themselves. |

I class myself as curvy cos I've still got a waist. Yea technically I'm fat but as all my pics are honest n show me from every angle I'm not "conning" anyone.

It is a perception thing, and how you associate words with some image of what that words projects.
For me curvy is hourglass type figure, ample is linked with bossom size, and fabulous someone with an outgoing personality.
Now to someone else this could mean something completely different. Yes it is just one word, but people can be fussy and filter quite quickly.
For example it is no different to using words such as, athletic, toned, gym body. Which one means what to different people? Some words will attract, some detract.

It's an old fashioned very crude and rough guide to waist size...
Curvy means a few extra pounds.
Fabulous means very large.
Some who pick curvy think it means hour glass figure and some who pick fabulous think it means perfect. As its being taken in wrong context so often you just need to look at the pictures.
It's just another thing this site could do with updating. |

This sums it up
Look at their photos, arrange a social ~ if the pics are out of date / misleading, it will be obvious then. |

Ha ha I described us both as fabulous. I'm a size 12 and hubby is a 34 waist.
Fabulous sounds so much better than average X |

I would say I depends on the individual who is reading as well, if a person who is reading the profile has slim body then even a athletic women/man could be curvy to them. Just ask for a full body pic and take a guess for your self. |

People will describe themselves how they see themselves. For example..
A size 8 woman could look at herself and think 'omg I'm fat!' And a size 24 woman could say 'wow I look fabulous!'
Curvy, ample and fabulous are more of a gauge of self confidence as a result of antisocial body shaming as to what is acceptable.

Large. Because i'm fat. Sure as shit if i put fabulous some smart arsed person who thinks all women above a size 12 shouldn't be breathing, nevermind be confident, feel sexy or have the audacity to be on fab looking for sex, will message me telling me "i'm not fabulous".
So yeah.
Everyone has their own opinion. It will always be wrong to someone. |

I use large as I perceive fabulous to cover a multitude of sizes.
Curvy I think of as voluptuous. I would more use the word lumpy or wobbly when describing myself.
If they had obese on here then I would happily tick that so as not to mislead anyone.
Like most things on here it is all subjective.

The choice of words is irrelevant for me, I just go by what I like the look of. As long there pics give me a twitch then they can call themselves what they like. |

This is something that has sometimes confused me in the past, not for other looking at other people but more myself.
I don't think I'm fat as such But I'm not "average". I don't think large would really fit my requirements. I don't have wide hips which I would associate with "curvy" and I don't think I'm confident enough to say that I'm fabulous, but I'm not slim or athletic either.
I don't want to mislead so I have lots of photos taken over a long period of time to show the progression or regression of my figure. I'm very honest in messages to say that I'm just an average woman with usual issues and usual hang ups.
I guess I just hope that people will only message me if they like what they see, and wouldn't go through the hassle of messaging me just to be like "your not perfect"
Frankly I have days where I think no one would want to see me naked and other days where I feel good about myself and feel sexy. You know, like a normal person.
I say be as honest about yourself as you feel you can be, and when it comes to others if your 'not sure' in a picture then they are probably not for you. |

"I'm curvy AND fat / large like I still go in at the waist etc - I picked fabulous as people can see from my friends pics full body
Fair enough, a better answer than most have given yet"
Folk's answers not satisfactory then OP? What? Did you expect everyone to agree with you? |

Can be confusing if there isn't a photo. I prefer slim-to-average myself, and there was a woman without pics who called herself "fabulous", and I wrote her off as being not my type.
Maybe others did too, because a few weeks later she posted a body pic, and she had the physique of a supermodel!

It's a body shape scale isn't it? Curvy = i have some lady lumps, ample = i feel i have a few more lady lumps than the curvies... and fabulous = anywhere from i have considerably more lady lumps to basically i'm just fat as fuck. It's just dressed up with nice words, for the self conscious amongst us, bit like the use of the term bbw. |

I'm just fat but it doesn't let me put that... however my hips are 14" bugger than my waist and I have boobs so does that make me curvy... even though I'm fat? Ok fat bird with curves and a jelly belly and big bum... fabulous maybe?! |

I find this difficult to work out tbh! I see myself as curvy as I'm not slim but does curvy mean large? I could put average but not sure anybody wants to be 'average' lol |

I've changed from curvy to ample to fabulous.
I can't make up my mind to be honest and if we don't know as ladies, how are you guys supposed to?
To save the hassle of giving the wrong impression I've put my dress size in my profile and there's pictures of me in my underwear in public pics.
If anyone is still confused then I guess they'd just have to meet me to see what I'm like. Although if you get put off by a wobbly tummy then we wouldn't be compatible anyway |

I change mine from curvy to ample then back again. It's a difficult one. As others have said, I think it's about self perception. Plus, everybody seems to have different definitions of what a set body type means. I don't know if it's worth over analyzing for that reason. |

To me :
Curvy is feminine for in & out in all the right places
Ample is more masculine meaning well built, chunky, chubby
Fabulous is the top end of chubby in a man or a big lass all over in a woman.
Just my take though
How others see themselves is likely to differ from person to person |

I don't think there's much difference... I don't think I've ever looked at and relied upon the description. Ever.
If I like the pics then we're off to a good start. I really don't care which tick box they've selected. |

I have curvy cos large just sounds such a boring word lol plus while my belly may wobble like a bowl full of jelly I still have a clear waist/hips
But I also have my dress size in my profile text to make my size clear |

I wouldn't read too much in to it.
What really matters is whether you like the person, how they look, their attitude and what personality you can glean from any interaction. I don't think the labels really mean anything to be honest. |

curvy is what it says on the tin, not thin, bit of padding in the right places, maybe a tad chubby but not too much. anything else in reality is just various grades of fat
what makes me laugh is guys that describe themselves as athletic, you look at the pics and think "the only way you're athletic is if you consider sumo a sport" |

Oh let's see, did I state what my opinion was? No. I asked what people thought these descriptions meant seeing as the site insists that we are choose one. I can easily accept that some people have their own definitions. For an example of how to answer the question please see what Pretty Northern Girl wrote... |

We just approach this with a fairly recent, clothed, face and torso shot in your private gallery if necessary to prove you're not trying to be clever. Soon sorts out any misunderstandings. |

The difference is how people view themselves and sometimes how they have been pressured into viewing themselves by others.
Our insecurities make us too self critical and judgemental of how we think others view us and therefore the labels we attach to ourselves and others.
I lost 6 stone and 10 inches off my waist but I still see fat me in a mirror...
I only changed my profile to say slim because I was told to by a good friend on here....but I'm still not sure I believe it.
This is called fab swingers not weigh swingers and the emphasis on the perfect body what ever that is...detracts from the real value of this site...thats the people the relationships and the acceptance of others we should all strive for.

Well the dictionary will define both a curve and ample, Fabulous is here for those that can't bring themselves to be boxed of in one of the other categories. Delusional should be an option in there too though. |

"Do you think the descriptive 'fat' should be offered in the options or does that still come with too many negative conurtations for most ? "
i think they should get rid of them altogether, not like you can search for a body type using them and people have different ideas what each type is anyway.
some people do find the medical terms offensive yes, to answer your question. |

I, Mrs, am a shape. It's not a shape that everyone likes, hey I don't even like it that much, but as a shape isn't an option I went for large.
Yes I'm fat. Yes I need to lose weight. Yes I eat the things I shouldn't and drink too much wine, and I have zero motivation and willpower. The struggle is real.
But inside I'm the same as everyone else, and have the same insecurities that my 18 year old size 8 daughter has.
Why???? Because society and the media make most people think they're not good enough.
There's too much body shaming going on, and social media has a lot to answer for.
Everyone's perception of body size is different, so why does it even have to be thing? X

i always use the medical terms despite it possibly offending. just think they're the correct terms to use and i'm never using them in a derogatory way. |

I see Curvy as a lovely hour glass figure... Boobs, bum but a waist... No squidgy bits hanging over jeans
Ample.... Squidgy bits
Fabulous.... Squidgy bits on squidgy bits...
I've got myself down as Ample..
Personally until you actually meet the person you can't be sure anyway... Some have " Athletic " and you meet them and think... hhhm.... Me thinks not sweetheart!

I class myself as curvy. Average I feel is an injustice. To anyone. Sounds like a horrible way to describe yourself ( my opinion, no offence meant if so) One day I hope to class myself as atheletic. I don't mean here, necessarily. It's not a Fab goal |
