They are different. Fairy cakes have a blob of fondant. Cup cakes have a sickly mass of buttercream icing.
Butterfly cakes had just the right amount of buttercream icing. Now they have gone American on us, loaded them with icing and called them cupcakes. |

Nah, ya got this all wrong missus ffs. 
Cupcakes can have any number of toppings, but Fairy Cakes have those little edible wing shaped thingies stuck into some icing innit sis  |

Naaaaaaa fairy cakes are just normal cakes to me no silly wings on them ....i grew up calling them fairy cakes and it's stuck  |
