England is a dangerous place to drive in. One thing I noticed is that a very little amount of drivers actually move lanes with a decent amount of space and literally pull in in front of you. Reminds me of Spain.

Middle lane so there's an outside lane isn't there?

If I'm driving at an accurate 70mph in the middle lane while slowly but constantly overtaking slower moving traffic on the inside lane why should there be a problem because I can't be holding people up, can I?

People who visited from the US (about 15 years ago) were quite impressed with the driving standard over here - not any more. The driving in the US is far superior to ours. There are far too many selfish people over here - most using their phone. We need more guns.

Drove from Edinburgh to Nottingham not long ago and it was crazy. Not only the amount of people on the road but the amount of lane changing when there was no room! Up here there would a hell of a lot of road rage if people carried on like that

I'm really bad for annoying other drivers. For example if someone is right up my ass on a road where the speed limit is 20,30 or 40 I'll slow down to a couple mph under the limit. Then if the opportunity arises and they give me dirty looks I roll down the window and offer them a tissue

Will get punched one of these days

Must admit, I'm guilty of this, rather than constantly weaving back and forth into very tight gaps, which I'm sure some drivers think makes their dicks bigger or something. Also guilty of sitting back in the fast lane and giving the car in front breaking distance, rather than getting right up his arse and bullying him over like BMW drivers keep trying to do to me.

Also BMW's, Audi's.

Watched a few crazy driving:

Drivers going from slip road right onto fast lane and not indicating.

Then it's the opposite when exiting m'way, hammer on brakes, no indication, right across onto slip road off.

Yup and they can go in the slow lane. I can sit in the middle lane and the daredevils can go in the fast lane. No need to change lanes other than exiting the motorway.

Hiding in the shadows

I hate motorways!

I visit my family in the Midlands 3-4 times a month, 5hr drive each way.

Middle lane hoggers drive me mad. I use the inside lane, moving out overtaking folks quite happily toodling along at 50/60mph.

More often than not though I can't overtake due to the build up cars behind them.

I now have a 2 minute rule, if I'm stuck unable to overtake after this time, then I will undertake.

Wrong I know, but I don't want my 5hr drive turning into 7hrs

Same here tbh!

To me - constantly weaving in and out of the slow lane every few seconds is dangerous! I change lanes only if there's a longish gap - or if there are no lorries in the slow lane so it's moving at a decent pace! Xx

If you can't safely and competently change lanes you shouldn't be driving.

If you're undertaken on the motorway, the gap to your left is exactly where you should have been.

The speed isn't the issue with middle lane hoggers.

Lane hogging is illegal no matter what speed you are doing. If you are not overtaking, move left, it really is that simple

All this "well if I'm doing 70 I shouldn't be holding anyone up" is absolute bollocks. Move left and if anyone wants to go faster than the speed limit, let them, it's not your job to govern the speed limits

You're allowed to undertake a middle lane hogger, as long as you didn't purposely moved into lane 1 to do so. But it's much safer to overtake in lane 3.

Eventually - not too long now - you'll drive in the lane position assigned to you - potentially paying a premium for a faster journey / use of overtaking lanes.

Like budget tickets, the longer in advance you book a journey - say Birmingham to Manchester - the cheaper it may be, with cheaper optional extras, such as arrival time that's closest to requirements, permitted deviations etc.

We - or our vehicles - will drive in the lane that the algorithm deems appropriate for us.

M5 northbound yesterday. A fourth lane opens up on the left, yet most stay where they are, even the professional drivers.

I moved to the new lane, have a good mile of clear road to the next vehicle, and yet I'm the naughty one for staying in the left most lane, under the speed limit, but faster than them.

Except you're totally wrong. It's called filtering and is perfectly legal for those on two wheels. Maybe time you reread the Highway Code before venturing out on the road again. Rule 160 applies

"The speed isn't the issue with middle lane hoggers.

Lane hogging is illegal no matter what speed you are doing. If you are not overtaking, move left, it really is that simple

All this "well if I'm doing 70 I shouldn't be holding anyone up" is absolute bollocks. Move left and if anyone wants to go faster than the speed limit, let them, it's not your job to govern the speed limits "

But that's a problem in itself, speeding.

The highway code is to make people safe drivers so the roads are a safe place to negotiate. Since we can a billion opinions about driving, it's the highway code that filters these opinions to one set standard.

Always remember about your driving, "If you just did that on your driving test, would you have passed?".

So if motorway driving was part of the test and you hogged the middle lane or ignored the speed limit, would you have passed your test? No.

So motorway or not, just remember that deviating from the highway code, whether you like it or not, makes you a dangerous driver because that's how the authorities deem such drivers.

The problem with the roads is that many people just need to calm down and slow down.

Slow drivers can cause accidents as well

Correct, like we just said, deviating from the highway code makes you a dangerous driver.

"Norfolk drivers are by far the worst kind of drivers "

Is that because they don't have a motorway to practice on?

Roundabouts seem to be a problem for them

A roundabout near to where we live has signs explaining the lanes and writing on the road in each lane but they're still all over the place. So if they didn't see or read the signs or road markings, what on earth are they looking at!!

Oh, they beep at us when we use the correct lanes!!

"Then they give you a shitty look as you undertake them..

Middle lane so there's an outside lane isn't there?

If I'm driving at an accurate 70mph in the middle lane while slowly but constantly overtaking slower moving traffic on the inside lane why should there be a problem because I can't be holding people up, can I?

"

Most speedometers under read and can legally under read by up to 10%. So when you think you are doing exactly 70 mph you could in fact be doing as little as 63 mph and quite possibly holding people up. It's not your job to try to control or police the speed of other drives on the motorway; the highway code is clear KEEP LEFT.

"The worse undertakers are motorbike riders and cyclists (passing cars on the inside in traffic queues is undertaking), thats probably why so many of them end up in an Undertakers.

Except you're totally wrong. It's called filtering and is perfectly legal for those on two wheels. Maybe time you reread the Highway Code before venturing out on the road again. Rule 160 applies"

Silly your absolutely correct, if car drivers used their mirrors before lane jumping, because they think the other lane is moving faster, then there wouldn't be any bike accidents, filtering IS legal.

As for middle lane hoggers, do want you want, I really don't care, but what is so dangerous is the 60mph driver, then when a lorry pulls out to overtake, the hogger then decides to suddenly jump to the outside lane, into faster moving traffic, because they are daydreaming and not using their mirrors, arrrrrrrr,

How about the folks that will sit in the right hand lane of a dual carriageway, just because they are going to turn right in 2 miles?

I tend to stay in the outside lane, moving over when faster moving traffic comes up behind me.

The number 1 most dangerous driver on the road, is always the person who is angry about all the other drivers on the road.

If I can get past another driver, or they are travelling at somewhere close to the speed I wish to travel at, they never annoy me. Just an obsticle to not come into contact with.

An old lady drove up the wrong way on the slip road the other week. We beeped at her and she still carried on with no care in the world. A sat there in amazement at what I was seeing.
