I'm looking at gifts for a friends birthday and need inspiration.
What's the best gift you ever received?
Mine was a plant I was given on a first date almost 12 years ago. Its massive now but I can't bring myself to trim it |

To be an exceptional gift it has to be tied to an exceptional memory. So a mix tape or engraved wooden spoon could be the best gift in the world.
My last best gift was a titanium plated 12mm bowl gouge, without a handle. Was something I needed but hadn't asked for, and the purchaser (my son) knew I like to make my own handles cos my hands are quite large. |

My favourite gift was given to me on my 30th birthday. It's a framed black and white photograph of waves crashing up the side of Brighton pier. I have very happy memories of great nights out in Brighton with the friend that gave it to me. He and I had some real adventures together, it's on my bedroom wall and I smile every time I look at it. |

I try and buy gifts for what i think that person would like.
My best gift was actually something very simple and cheap. I had told jay a story from my childhood and he bought me a set of russian dolls. Which is what the story has been about.
Ive bought him everything from dinner on the northern bell while travelling through the countryside to a little blue plastic spade |

I once gave my mum a kitchen aid mixer, two Christmases ago. She always banged on about wanting one ever since I can remember. She cried when she opened it. I was also the favourite child for a while |

Ok, my friend bought us tickets to go see one of my fave bands for my birthday. I cried... lots.
It was a very very special gift and something I'll remember from the moment she showed me the booking to the drive home after the gig.
To be fair tho, I cry if I'm brought flowers or anything really. It's because I don't expect it and I'm touched that someone has gone out of their way to do something thoughtful.
My colleagues at work knew I love flowers but my ex never bought me a single bunch in the 11 years we were together. When I finally plucked up the courage to kick him out they all put some money in and brought me a massive bunch for each room in the house. Again, that was really touching. |

A year in photos is without the most special gift I have received from someone. An album with photos of events, people, places, anything and everything that had happened over a year. I have a collection over a 5 year period which I treasure. |
