Tattoo, what to get?

"Wanting to get a tattoo on my forearm but not sure what to get. Any ideas?"
I think we should contact Arthur C Clarke as I was thinking that about 10 minutes ago. I might get a tattoo this year. I was actually thinking of a Star Wars symbol or the family coat of arms which is a bit naff actually. |

"One gets a tattoo because one wants THE tattoo not A tattoo.
Decent tattoo artists won't tattoo you if you seem unsure of what you even want, it's a life looking commitment after all
'XX'"
Agreed! You'll need to go on with a design or specific ideas of what you want for them to then draw something for you. Tattoos are personal, not a fashion accessory. They're a form of expression of ones inner thoughts, desires and feelings. |

The tattoo and the location of the tattoo won't always match up either. You may pick a design and then where you want it, but the artist could disagree with you. Remember they are the one who is experienced, and you should listen to all and any advice they give.
My advice to you is go and speak to a tattooist, you can usually get a quick consultation with one for free. Have some ideas in mind, you can even take in some examples of designs to show them.
You mention an eagle design, a large bird with a very large wingspan. This may not work on your forearm, even a design where the bird is perched. Unless the tattoo is very small of course.
I mean no offence by this, but you sound like you want a tattoo because it's "cool"
It's not like getting your haircut a certain way or buying a new shirt. It's permanent. |

"A huge American flag on your upper arm with "god bless America" across the bottom.
Wouldn't that be 2 tattoos? "
I don't really know what delineates an individual tattoo, as I've never gotten one. Although, I feel the tattoo(s?) I suggested would be incomplete without both parts being incorporated. |

I have an idea.
Give up on getting one until you see a design that you absolutely must have! Not that you just like, that you Love!
The amount of people nowadays just getting a tattoo because it's more socially accepted it massive, and when you ask them about it they reply with "I just wanted one" |

"I know mate hahah. I'm thinking on something eagle wise but I don't know if it will look daft"
the head of one might look ok, a full eagle there's probably not the room for anything decent on your forearm as it'd have to wraparound and i don't think that'd look good...although saying that maybe a wing sideways would look alright, not sure you could have the rest of the eagle on the top of your arm with that. that's why you tend to see them on back/shoulders and chest pieces because they fit just nice there.
what kind of stuff are you into?

Was hoping to get one next month, either water colour or art nouveaux
Looks like I'll be spending the dosh on replastering now
My advice for what it's worth, research your artist have a chat with the one you decide to use and take it from there x |
