Are they important? Do you have them? Do your kids? How many do you have?

I have Godparents. My family is rather Catholic, so we all have them.

My sister asked me to be her son's godmother but I said no because I'm not remotely religious.

Oh, and I have two. One man and one woman. That's how all of my family does it.

I'm an atheist but have a god daughter who is someone that I have accepted responsibilities for throughout her life, ensuring she's cared for and safe.

It's a great concept that doesn't need religious intrusion.

My godparents were important to me as a child as I spent time with them. Although still fond of them I see them rarely. I am godfather to one of my nephews. I'm there for him if ever he needs me and see him a few times a year, particularly Easter, his birthday celebration and Christmas along with other ad hoc visits.

I had god parents my kids don't, I don't see the need, and I have politely declined the request to be a god father, because I'm old fashioned and if I was going to do it I would feel partly responsible for their moral growth, and I'm not a hypocrite

I have god parents and I got my daughter Christened more because it was expected.

I'm also god mother to my eldest nephew. I have to confess that it's I was very uncomfortable, especially as it was high church. I politely asked that I not be asked again

I didn't know godparents is something to do with religion necessarily.

I thought if by some horrid way the parents of the child die, the godparents are the ones who then take care of it.

Of course it's a religious thing. The clue is in the name

I have god parents but never see them, actually they are quite possibly dead now. I'm a god parent to my nephew. My own children haven't been christened so don't have any, I feel a bit bad about that if I'm honest.

I refused to be a god mother to my friends daughter because they asked a lot of me. Like having them to stay and being part of each other's family. Considering we are quite a distance apart I thought that was quite heavy!!

I have godparents- not in touch with any of them and never really have.

but I am the unofficial godmother to a friend's child- they put it in their will that I take care of little one if something's happened to them. had me sniffle my nose a bit when they asked...

I have 2, 1 from each side if my family... V close to my godmother, she has been a positive abd constant influence in my life from day 1.

I am a godmother, I see her nearly every week. I am there physically and emotionally for her. Her parents know I'd do anything for her and them. I and my brother (her godfather) take our role seriously and will when she is old enough help guide her spiritually also. Love her so much

I have 3 godparents, I'm close to the two women and they've been part of all the major milestones in my life. I'm definitely closer to them than one of my aunts.

Our little un was christened and she has 4 godparents, three of them are regular features in her life and two of them are particularly doting and have a fantastic relationship with her. Although it's based in religion to me it's about having adults outside the family there to provide support and guidance.
