Iceland, but Aldi is closer.. |
Gin is definitely the in drink,
Only just a few years ago we were limited to Gordons, now there's a plethora of brands, with new ones appearing weekly..
Having enjoyed gin for a number of years, I have embraced this sudden influx of choice and enjoy trying the different botanicals, my favourites being portobello road or whitley & Neill.
What's your go to gin of choice? |

I love gin, my "every day" gin is Bombay Sapphire (I don't actually drink it every day, but always have a bottle in). Then I have others, at the moment I'm particularly enjoying Tanqueray No.10 and Silent Pool. So many I like! The only one I've tried so far and not been keen on is Adnams Copper House.
If you like gin, I can thoroughly recommend the gin festivals (google them) great opportunity to try something new and there are distillers there with samples to try too. |

Oh, that Adnams one is awful, reminded me of tippex thinners.
There is an upcoming gun festival at Tobacco Dock near Tower Bridge at the end of August, I Will definitely be attending.. |

"I'm gonna be controversial I expect - I can't stand tonic . Drink mine with lemonade and fresh lime (or other fruit if a flavoured gin)"
Nothing wrong with that at all..
Gin has a strong flavour and will shine through most mixers (although is just wrong!)
I enjoy gin and cranberry juice as well as with tonic or orange juicen |

Tried quite a few. The Aldi one that costs about 14 quid for a litre bottle is what I normally buy. From one of the reviews (Daily Telegraph)
"Aldi’s gin is making headlines once again. Its Oliver Cromwell London Dry Gin (£9.65 for a 70cl) has won a silver medal in blind taste-testing at this year’s International Spirits Challenge. A slightly more expensive bottle from Asda won gold. But those in the know say Aldi’s is the top tipple, beating mainstream brands such as Bombay Sapphire and Hendricks, and comparable to upmarket rivals, including gins from Harrods and Waitrose." |

"If you ever happen to be in Tanzania - try Konyagi. It's a local gin . You can even buy it in little plastic pouches "
I had planned to visit a friend who lives near lake Victoria in Tanzania in the next couple of years..
He pickles chilli peppers in sherry or gin which seems to be a local thing to do...
The fiery alcohol is used to spice up meals.. far better than nandos chilli sauce. |

Slightly tangent but my homemade blackcurrant gin is amazing - tried it last night for the first time and have to hide it as it's supposed to be for Christmas! I've also got tayberry gin maturing. |

If you go to any local bars they don't sell it in shorts so you buy a 35cl bottle (which makes life much easier ) and it's about £4 |

I used to be repulsed by gin. All those botanicals smelt as if you should be cleaning the loo with it ...
... but then someone convinced me to try rhubarb gin and I was instantly won over. Add a shot of vanilla vodka, lemonade and crushed ice and it's like drinking a liquid rhubarb and custard sweet! |

I cant taste the difference from one gin brand to another, a bit like vodka. So I buy cheap one time and middle of the range another time. I have a bottle of gin and vodka that has barely been touched because i bought some prosecco instead |

"Can't stand the stuff yuk."
I used to hate it to but last time I had it was years ago it was probably Gordon's gin with lemonade. Things have changed. The silent pool had hints of lavender and honey (well that's what it said on the menu, I couldn't actually taste either) but it was delicious |

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
Gin is gin to me. The only way to taste the difference is to drink it neat, and I'm not that desirous of a banging hangover. I have just finished a bottle of Pickering 1948 which was rather nice, but I mix mine, and once you have the mixer in they all tend to taste the same.
Maybe we should discuss mixers. I use rose lemonade or elderflower tonic in mine. A nice long summer drink. |
