What I love about these kind of posts is that people forget the language has evolved.

We didn't always talk and write as we do now, and I think it's conceited to think it's a perfect and correct language as it is right now, and everyone should conform to that thought and method.

I also think it's conceited to believe anyone who doesn't conform lacks intelligence, as by that measure of ones intelligence, Shakespeare was a moron...

Personally I go by one measure, which is do I understand what the communicator is trying to convey. If so, all is good.

Language is fluid in my opinion - moving - changing - growing.

We had Latin as our base and from that came the Italian, French, Spanish and we no longer use Latin. We have English and Spanish combined as an example of the future of our English language.

To hang on to correct grammar may be to our own detriment - a man should only aspire to do as his father did, we should keep serfs and well to do apart, don't speak until we are spoken to or God forbid be on a casual play site such as this!

We evolve and language moves with our changing values - in text / casual email speak, it is of no consequence if it is ....ur or your or you're or even an emoji! As long as the message is conveyed and is understood - that the communication has taken place - the context acknowledged - is that not the goal?

1. What judgement do we make on others who don't write as we do?

2 What value do we hold so dear that it frustrates us if they don't hold the same values? There are rules they should know them, use them not break them!

Do we really need 1. & 2. in the fab world.

The message has been conveyed - if it were a new tribe discovered and they communicated so you understood them and they could share knowledge and an exchange took place - isn't that all that matters - we are not writing White Papers here !

English is not a clear language anyway

I read a book last night

Will you read a book to me please?

How is it clear that i have used 2 different words when they look the same? You ise context from the rest of the information

We could have only one version of your and you're or their they're and there and would be able to work it out fine using the context... so what difference does it really make if someone makes a mistake and uses the incorrect one

Agree, but I think it's more akin peacocks displaying their feathers.

Except on here some will try to display their intelligence as a sexually appealing trait, sadly many believe that a display of intelligence is achieved by belittling others intelligence, by a measure of their own narrow perception, and in my opinion, it has completely the opposite effect of being appealing.

"We had Latin as our base and from that came the Italian, French, Spanish and we no longer use Latin.

Erm, no. No. Jusy no. We didn't. Ancient German was our base. But yes, Italian, French and Spanish came from Latin. We've incorporated various languages into English since then.

Anyways, I actually don't give that much of a fuck as long as I can understand what has been typed. It's a forum, I just want to roll eyes at some of the nonsensical crap that gets spouted and laugh at the wit of others."

A misunderstanding...the "we" was collective of the human race and chatting about language in general not English Per se - more about using that transference and evolution of a language to create something else as an example of language evolving....

Have you never heard of cross platform devices and all manor or spell checkers and auto text, predictive text. They all different. Then you got screen size. Not all dyslexic people spot words that the phone, tablet, etc changes.

Often write text. Then find phone changes it, nothing to do with me.

It seems very sad that people put others down over spelling on here and in messages. Its like school. C.V or no meet. Makes me laugh some of you that go on about spelling.

I wonder seeing everyone is influenced in this scene by porn. I wonder how many of those that pull up spelling. Think that your average porn star can spell

"As a dyslexic person I fuck these type of things up all the time. Granted I've learnt to overcome mine in a lot of ways but mistakes still happen

But you can still read it and understand what I actually meant by it, so most will overlook it in those circumstances

I would never have thought you were dyslexic. I don't think I've ever read a spelling mistake in any of your posts.

Most if us become experts in hiding it. Mainly because of the lack of understanding of it but also because of the humiliation people try to bestow on us for it. I'm 1 of the few lucky ones as my confidence in myself and my abilitys means nobody can belittle me over it.

This human nature to adapt to challenges set before you

It's been a challenge alright

The thing that annoys me the most about dyslexia is that most will assume that because your struggle using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling that you're just un-intelligent. In my experiences dyslexic people are some of the most intellectual people you'll converse with, we just can't spell for shit that's all

Actually what really does piss me off is people not realising how much effort it takes for us to spell on here I mean by fuck I try my best to spell everything I post right doesn't happen and never will but fuck me I try. Anther thing not really thought about is the balls it takes to post on a public forum. Ok I'm not that bad now but look at seaside for an example (I'm sure he won't mind me using him here) for those that where here when he 1st started posting the crap he took off people was untrue but he still kept his cool and I hasten to add that's more than I can do. I'm amazed I didn't get more bans jumping up for him but none of it fazed him for a second. A bigger man than me for sure....

He's a great guy and yes it takes a lot of time and effort for me to post and I try my best but I'll never be perfect

I actual love _eesides posts I can read them Fluently without the need to my tinted glasses

Dawt many will get that but it is true least most of the time "

I knew you'd get it though bladey

"Aaaaaaaagh! With a side order of Aaaaaagh! The End.

That's the noise, I make, when I see yet another spelling / grammar thread!

Then keep out of it. It really pisses people off - me included.

Nothing to do with intelligence, if people can't be bothered to try, I'm sure there's nothing they can do for me. Delete.

Talking of phones what I've noticed especially with this s8 the manufacturers brag about them being a learning phone bla bla bla well what this fuckers doing is learning how to be dyslexic and I kid you not. I completely concur!!

It absolutely drives me crazy when someone does not make the effort to use correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.

I understand and make exceptions for those who suffer with a genuine learning issue such as dyslexia, but for the majority it is purely laziness.

I do believe that computers, spell check, texting and the like have a lot to answer for, as well as a general decline of education and 'standards'.

I do have to admit, that my own spelling, punctuation and grammar which used to be excellent, have also been a casualty of this general decline.

Unfortunately, over-reliance on spell checker and instant messaging apps etc even seem to make those who have some skills lose then far too quickly.

This one learns on own if want or asks if want to add your word to its dictionary. However it has a mind of its own in that it changes words to your most used words half the time.

I hear you on tech probs with phones from dyslexia point of view. I do wonder how different it would be to run in voice mode all the time. This device supports voice commands and text as guess many do now.

I realise that dyslexia is not a learning issue, but I had no idea how to correctly classify it to be honest. I certainly would not go as far as to say disability and I wasn't sure, so that felt like the safest option!

Once again people are confusing dyslexia and poor English. Totally unrelated. Are we agreed English should be taught in schools? Good. That means there is a standard. The fact that aspiring to the standard is regarded as discriminatory is disturbing. Someone with dyslexia would probably find all written subjects challenging. That doesn't make them any less intelligent. It means they need support, that's all.

Op. I got diagnosed Dyslexia in the second to last year of school. My teachers saw o was going to fail my gcse English exam after my Mocs.

That to me, is education failing a child.

If that was missed for a little longer, I would have left school being know as just someone who's bad at English to you.

Get over it and stop passing yourself off as someone who's better than those who grasp on English language isn't as good as yours.

"What I love about these kind of posts is that people forget the language has evolved.

If so, all is good."

I know language changes but I just want to be able to understand someone. If they can spell and use punctuation then I am more likely to converse with them as I understand them. Simple really.

The old 'thick' word eh or 'you stupid boy'. I know the word thick very well.

I was called it by teachers regularly, right up until I invented a product for the robotics/pneumatics industries at 13 year old. Got into national finals for a massive design awards and came 2nd in UK.

The product went on to be produced and have millions of units sold world wide, while I was still at school ha

Every teacher stopped calling me thick from then on

But then I'd proved to these 'wankers' I wasn't thick like I had been labeled.

The amount of times I felt like responding to teachers with 'are you thick sir' after explaining robotics to a minds that well used to call me 'thick'.

I'd like to think times have changed for kids with dyslexia now a days, compared to your childhood experiences and mine after you.

I know three other dyslexics, they all had a hard time with school.

One mate said spent entire school being called thick. He now heads up a design team with a global car giant.

Spelling and grammar etc has nothing to do with intelligence

English now. What is it? especially given the 'English' language has been so eroded over the years and will continue to do so...an example of this would be the white British man is becoming a minority in UK.

Five cities we at now I'm sure...that English language is the least used and British man the minority... so the English both written and spoken is being eroded slowly in society anyway.

Are schools at primary levels in Uk...the only person who actually speaks English is the teacher.

Is a school in glasgow..that has a class of 25 kids, 9 different languages, no English apart from teacher...and Glasgow is a place of high british numbers compared....with say non British speaking Brits.

Im sure the standard of spelling has declined in British schools, and the nature of English being taught differs a lot from the quality of previous years.

I don't think there is a standard in Britain. A standard of clowns that go on about spelling and grammar, but then in the real world these people tend to be rather dull and boring in my experience, so I'd rather spell poorly and be with the fun creative real people
