I'm studying and getting kinda bored of it so thought I'd share/ask you guys this.

Whats your Basal Metabolic Rate? If you don't know its the amount of calories you use a day just by functioning.

Theres loads of online calculators for it but if you want to do it yourself.

Women - BMR = 655 + 4.35 x weight in lbs) + (4.7 x height in inches) - 4.7 x age in years)

Men - BMR = 66 + (6.23 x weight in lbs) + (12.7 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years).

Yes ladies, you need to use your real age and weight, not your fab ones.

I worked out at 5"7' weighing around 82kg mine was 1640.

Actually that's your Resting Metabolic Rate RHR. Your Basal Metabolic Rate is essential the same thing but the term should only be used when the calorie consumed were measured under specific conditions, such as a certain room temperature.

These are of course only baselines, and activity levels, genetics in general, health and other factors can contribute. it also changes as you lose and gain weight, or even just as your body goes through recomposition when gaining muscle but not changing weight at all.

This ball park figure is great for understanding where to start in a diet, and nothing else. It should be used to see if you're still maintaining or losing weight, and you adjust accordingly.

I don't count my calories but my two days of calorie deficit per week ensure I'm losing at least 2lbs per week

Buggered it up a bit by going on holiday and putting a bit back on. But well on the road to losing that again

I think base intake is about 1600 plus exercise

Some days I rd cycle for 4 to 5 hrs

Or swim for an hr or sometimes both

So I added 600 average intake for exercise per day.

"I like it when the authorities in the know say you should eat 5 portions of fruit & veg per day. Can someone define a portion for me please? "

Its crazy trying to fit all that in, your dairy, carbs, protein and keep it balanced.

To lose 1lb a week cut 500 calories a day as 1lb of body fat is 3500 calories.

"6ft, 166lbs, 44yrs, BMR 1715. Then consider the 8 miles I walk every day

Apparently 100 calories are burned by an 180 lb person per mile. "

Call it 2500 then, I can eat that watching TV with a big bag of crisps and a chocolate bar

"My missus bought me one of those new fangled fitbit watches that tells me that I burn on average about 3,000 calories per day (53yrs old, 6ft, 11st4 ....but I guess my calorie burn is a bit higher than normal, because I do walk a fair bit each day & use the gym a lot)

Are you a dog walker for a living?"

Haha ...no, but I walk 2 miles, row 2.5 miles & run 3.5miles (every day).I went onto a caveman-esque diet last May...& over the course of the year lost 3 stone. I decidely it would be mildly amusing to acquire my first six pack ever in my mid fifties (vs the expected 20-30s) ...still a coule of punds to go, but almost there - get the photo ...then start eating pies again.

Six pack of pies is do-able! 8 might be too many?
