Question for the ladies - public attention

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Here's something I'd like to hear different views about, from a ladies perspective of course...

Do any women enjoy public attention from guys?

This could be in many forms but commonly is a wolf whistle, a horn beep from a passing car, or calling out comments.

We're led to believe that all women hate such a sexist, demeaning act, which is easy to understand from say a fat, ugly, aging yob shouting out of a van.. "hey, get your tits out luv!"

So is there anything you like when in public, from complete strangers passing by? Is there any tasteful way of expressing thoughts of.. 'oh my god, you are incredibly hot'

I enjoy a compliment and the attention x

I like something subtle, just like a cheeky smile or second glance. Wolf whistles or beeps don't exactly work!

A sexy smile and 'hi' is acceptable.

Shouting out of vans is so 1970s and is harassment.

I don't like it... some days I get awfully anxious about going out, and if a stranger makes a sly comment as they go past or shouts out of a car window it makes me feel worse, especially as when it does happen it happens on days when I look/feel like crap, so it comes across as mocking. I'd just rather not be noticed.

And I never look incredibly hot.

"I like something subtle, just like a cheeky smile or second glance."

That's exactly what I like to do - give a cheeky knowing smile and it's great if you get a cute smile back.

Well unless your photos on here are the product of a Photoshop genius, I very much beg to differ!

Erm.

You can judge someone's hotness by their eyes?

I don't mind a nice smile and a wink, but the whole wolf whistles and shouting at me wouldn't be appreciated x

Haha, didn't realise you only have the one pic visible at the mo... to quote a bad 90's song.. 'errm, I've noticed you around' (I remember you have a lovely figure)

A good selection of responses already. Thanks

Smiles are nice .... but leering at me, cat calling, shouting out personal or sexist remarks, being beeped at - I hate all that. I find it intimidating and embarrassing, not at all flattering.

Wolf whistling and calling out comments can be rather unpleasant to many women. In my city this is now recorded as misogyny hate crime.

The eyes are the window to the soul by all accounts

I don't mind someone paying me attention in public.

Prefer it not to be in the form of shouting at me in the street, unless they want some back!!

In my job, what would be classed by many as sexual harassment is par of the course! It's mostly just banter but if they're going to give it, they must expect a come back and that may not be quite what they want

I have no problem putting guys back in their place.

I really don't get offended by a cheeky smile, a wink or a "hi". I'm a friendly kinda woman and if I guy winked, and I thought he was hot, I'd wink back.

Some women think it's very sexist!

A guy did follow my boobs around Waitrose last week though, yes my top was revealing but he made it way to obvious.

I don't mind a person coming up to me or giving me a wink but anything that's too much actually irritates me and I turn into a bit of a gobshite.

Love a compliment, and it will make my day when it's sincere however been known to assume it was a dare or piss take.

Wolf whistles or beep I assume is for someone else.

"Wolf whistles or beep I assume is for someone else."

I've always wondered that - most of the time if the vehicle is travelling at speed down a semi-crowded street, do the men that do this really expect a woman to think "wow, he must be looking at me"! Haha. It's rather ill-thought out at best.

I can't say I'm a fan on cT calling it's just rude if I'm honest but I don't mind the attention from a guy if he makes it known that he thinks in good looking.

Toots and whoops my friends and I call them, when we used to go out road running we'd get loads of beeps from passing cars and vans especially if we had shorts on!

A smile once brief eye contact has been established. Actual comments, whistles, beeping horns can do one; I can't stand them and have always found them offensive regardless of the intent.

It doesn't bother me, but I usually ignore it. Sometimes I smile, sometimes I change my route so I don't have to go back past them.

I get a lot of sly looks that make me laugh a little. It's usually my boobs they look at, or face then boobs.

Hoots and whistles always make me smile. I love getting them.

Shouting things sounds rather intimidating though. Thankfully, I've only had compliments called to me rather than being told to get them out etc

The worlds gone too PC.

A second glance or nice smile (with nice teeth of course) wins hands down over a beep or a whistle any day.

A smile and a second glance is an expression of appreciation, cat calling and wolf whistles is more about the giver showing off to equally Neanderthal peers.

Sometimes U.K

'If' it happened, I would very much doubt it would be aimed in my direction.

Have to admit I might look around me to see who was on the receiving end of such attention and think 'lucky them'
