i found this info on net hope it helps Copy this text into notepad (starting with Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00) and save it to your desktop using the name "missing.reg":

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32]

"midimapper"="midimap.dll"

"msacm.imaadpcm"="imaadp32.acm"

After saving the file, go to START RUN and type 'regedit' and then click OK

In the registry, select FILE IMPORT and select the "missing.reg" file from your desktop

You should get a confirmation that it was imported successfully.

This is an instant fix ... your speakers should now work for web sounds, no reboot required.

Heard about this happening to someone the other day (not me as I don't use lappy's or pc's).

They were listening to music files absolutely fine but couldn't understand why live streaming off telly/radio wasn't working... the volume control had been set to 'mute' on the media player (different to the music files).

It took my dear friend two whole days to suss this one out!

im running vista on my lappy, so not sure if it will work on your system

if i left click on the little speaker icon on the bottom right corner of my task bar it comes up with the volume slider,, at the bottom it will say mixer

mine brings up the programs that are running and the various volume outputs they have, perphaps internet explorer/firefox etc was muted? Hope you get it sorted x

I would be wary of editing your registry if you don't know what you are doing. Can cause big trouble.

You should definitely back up everything, and make sure you have a very recent System Restore point before touching the registry.

Although Fab members can be a great resource base, you already have a huge resource base at your fingertips; GOOGLE. Type in your question/problem and it's pretty well guaranteed that there'll be other people who've had the same problem as you.

Sounds daft, but you have tried switching the machine off and then on again?

Now and then the web browser will have mad moments and not co-operate, a reboot can fix this.

Ive had this a couple of times and for some strange reason it sorts itself when you plug in and then unplug headphones a couple of times.

Only found that out after spending hours doing all the tech stuff, sometimes the solution can be fairly simple
