"Yes, go ahead and replace with The Trump, soooo much better! " you know the crisis in the 70's when we became almost bankrupt and that was the main reason for joining the EU. The goverment of the day considered asking to become part of the usa to such extent talks were held and plans drawn up.. its just becoming available to the public in the archives for freedom of information |

We need to hang on to them for a little while longer. Post brexit the UK will have to invade France. And what would make that more fun. Giving those Frenchies a Monarchy again.
The French will, in true french style, cut off their heads.
Everybody's happy.

Love the monarchy - part of what makes us British. Renoun thoughtout the globe, so can't deny the importance of tourism.
To be honest - I wouldn't mind if Liz went 'fuck this shit' and just took over. Clearly the politicians can't work shit out for themselves so perhaps we just need someone to take control for a while. She's been around for so long - I'd trust her judgement! |

Racist much??
I don't care where her heritage is. She's 90+ years old, been doing this for 60+ years and has not put a foot wrong.
She didn't ask for it, and while it appears to be the ultimate in luxury there is also a lot that probably has to be forgone.
Don't have the same feeling towards
Charles - but hope William and Catherine will bring the same sense of patriarchy.
I don't care if it's old fashioned or out dated etc etc it's special, British, couldn't give a shit how much it cost, etc
Buckingham palace isn't owned be the queen anyway - its belongs to the public. So even if they weren't there we'd need to spend the money to restore it anyway.

They are, but also gave huge amounts of the families wealth and land to the government in exchange for the civil list retainers they receive. Basically paying their own wages for being civil servants. Still cheaper than the US presidents and far less harmful. We should keep them. |

totally wrong. i'm writing this story and it's doing nothing for me.
anyway, liz goes and hobbles over to her golden throne
...not really, 4 strong gym fit hunks carry her over to it and gently lay her down. they all kneel around her throne, admiring her beauty and power.
liz spreads her legs and beckons longschlong over. she firmly grabs his hair and pulls him towards her throbbing clit, and barks 'lick me. phil is useless at this type of thing ever since he got false teeth'.
glancing over at phil she sees his bright red cheeks as he squirms in embarrassment, 'that'll teach him, the racist twat' she silently thinks to herself. |

as longschlong delves deeper into lizs taco (thank you 50 shades generator, almost got stuck there), liz pulls on phils lead and drags him over to her heels,
'fucking lick them you snivelling fool'
phil quickly and enthusiaticlally licks the dirt off the bottom of her heels, then taking the foot and shoe into his palms he licks them all over, sniffing her tired busy feet while he does so.
the shoe slips off, the smell gets stronger. phil is rock hard and he hasn't even taken viagra tonight.
liz uses her bare foot to knock his face away from her feet.
'you really are a pathetic piece of shit, phil. you're not even fit to lick my soles. go get in your cage, i'm sick of you.
and if you don't behave in there i am going to blindfold you so you haven't even got a clue what a real man does.' |

can do if you like.
sir jeremy corbyn enters the room.
slightly shocked, but also slightly turned on by the site in front of him. he asks liz why she has invited him over.
'every night this week you've invited me. i'm you're dutiful servant obviously but i can't keep this up. diane abbot had me earlier and i've honestly run out of cum'.
'i'd like you to take pics tonight jeremy.' she replied.
rolling his eyes, jeremy takes out his trusty cam phone and starts snapping.
he takes pics of longschlong slapping his cock on phils face, and then pics of phil crying.
the queen just laughs. nobody is licking her taco but she doesn't even care any more. |

So if Jeremy Corbin fucked jerry Adams up the arse (assuming he hasn't already) would he do it while shouting
'UP THE IRA!'
And would jerry be singing Galway girl? |

"People still defend the vestiges of a rotten oligarchy?
They are a walking museum, useful so tourists can come and laugh at what a shambles our so-called democracy is.
very true there a puppet for the government of the day .. like the opening of parliament queens speech, my government .. its all written for here whether she agrees or not reads it out "
But if any government or opposition tried to turn the country into a dictatorship they could not. As they would need the backing of the military. And the military give their allegiance to the reigning monarch, not any politician. So the monarchy secures our democracy. While taking a backseat to allow democratic rule of the country through parliament. And attracting a shed load of tourists every year. And doing a ton of charity work. And on the male side serving in their own military. Not bad value considering they actual cost 56p per person in the UK. 56 pence you are grudging |

_imiuk they are not a walkking museum to be sneered at O.K.so we spend millions on them but they bring billlions into this country.Tourists DONT laugh at them, they admire them.In Americe history is only 300 years old but here in England we go back hundreds of years with our historyand that is what Americans love about us.God help us if we turn into a dictatorship,we would lose freedom of speech straight away. There would be no fab sites at all on here.I am a royalist through and through.I will be till my dying day.I don't have a clue what totalitarianism means but to me it sounds Communist to me. |

They need to go.
I see a few people have trotted out the 'tourism' argument - but I think that's nonsense. Which genuinely believes that visitors to the UK are here with the primary reason of viewing the royal household form 200 yards?
Whilst I don't doubt that the royals do generate income, when that income is offset against the amount they cost in maintenance, protection, property, transport etc. I simply don't see the value.
Further, the idea that someone can be BORN into a position of privilege is absurd. How does being born into a certain family entitle anyone to anything? Take it to an extreme - what if the next next generation of royals were born with a serious mental condition - would we let them sit on the throne? No. Obviously not. (it's happened before - Google it).
You may have guessed, but I'm pro Republic.

I know they add to the tourism pot. I've played vs many touring sports teams and just about every one of them had a week in London and a day in Windsor. They spend money in local shops, restaurants, business and so on. That filters down to wages and the companies those business trade with. I hope that dosent come across as patronising even if it's an obvious thing to say, it's certainly not 'trotted' out.
Those that have said the same as me are just giving an opinion.
Visiting the royal buildings is in with sport stadiums, museums, theme parks etc.
I think your spot on with your next paragraph about off setting the cost. It probably does run at a loss but might only cost me £1 a year, I'm guessing, as we all are unless there are official figures.
You should include the donated time, effort and money they give to charity though.
I'd be pleasently suprised if they broke even but don't mind if they don't. |

All valid, but countries without a monarch do just fine, as do their historic houses and sports teams.
My issue is twofold:
1. Being born into position.
2. Not having enough money to pay nhs workers, but having plenty to fund a Royal family. |

It's horrible that some people have nothing and others do just because of the womb they came from but that's life I suppose.
You still have a 'cast' (system, for want of a better word) in India from what I gather and the difference between wealth and poverty is more extreme there than anywhere else.
One small argument I do have with your last point is I think that somehow The Royal Family finances are seperate from the govt. I don't think we should of used so much money bombing other countries so much and instead put that money into nhs, schools etc but I don't wish to derail by going down that route.
A genuine question: Do they have a set budget that the govt set with them and pay them each year or are they self funded? |

"Love the monarchy - part of what makes us British.
A bunch of Germans defines our Britishness? I'm sure the Saxe-Coburg Gothas' will be pleased to know that.

Tax payers do not spend a penny on the royal family. They are funded from crown estates and have been since 1760 when George III needed a soloution to his debts.
The revenue from crown estates is at the disposal of the government in return for a yearly stipend of about 15%
The portfolio of property managed by crown estates is around 12 billion pounds.
Therefore the argument that the royal family actually cost the taxpayers anything is invalid.
What is up for debate is how these properties and lands were acquired , and the will of the people to have a sovereign |

Benali - I wonder if it's an age thing. I'm 10+ years older than you but I'm far from a traditionalist and dont think I've ever waved a Union Jack, I'm a very proud welshman who adored Lady Di and how she tried to give her boys as normal upbringing if she could.
That's where the love for them starts and ends.
I'd guess there was a 60/40 split in favour of keeping them and a further guess I would say from 45 years old on wards, the older people were the higher percentage of voters would vote to keep them. If we were to be given a vote on the subject.
Again I'm guessing a lot which dosent add much I suppose. |

People don't think about how much money the Royal Family bring into this country it's a massive draw for tourists and what our country is to a lot of foreigners it's something we should be proud of.
Why do we always want to be the same as everyone else! I think we should have stayed in EU but the Royal Family unique and ours! |

What I'd have stopped is the "awards" and "titles" the queen is allowed to dish out to her relatives with impunity.

Could not agree more
They are the largest contributors to the treasury, and give back way more than they take.
If we gave up / got rid of the royals we would no doubt loose a lot of respect world wide not to mention tourism and income.
Keep is what I think. |

It's not really the royals that are the problem. It's the fawning mass of barons and baronesses, lords and ladies, knights and dames, etc etc who consider themselves nearer or further away from being royal and, through that, consider themselves legitimately superior to other brits and therefore prop up our repulsively immoral class system. I would say "off with their heads" but unfortunately that's one hell of a lot of heads |

I have met many Lords and Lady's over the years.
To be honest the one's with a long lineage are generally nice people with nothing to prove.
It's the one's that got their titles after donating to a political party, that tend to think they are something special.
They are usually new money.
So even though they were born in a council house, they are reinforcing the class system in their own way...

Myth perpuated probably by the Royal Family themselves to appear important anr relevent. |

Doesn't really matter, the income from their property that is given to the state far outstrips what they cost the tax payer.

A strong sense of history and tradition is what makes us who we are and forms the backbone of our national identity. "A strong sense of history and tradition is what makes us who we are and forms the backbone of our national identity. I'm not above change but there has to be an advantage and i can see none in joining the ranks of all these tuppenny-ha'penny republics. We should keep the royals, i love them and are one of the reasons i'm proud to be British."
Absolutely, keep them and maintain our history of traditions... what would be the alternative vote someone in like that no good mofo Blair. Am proud that we have them |
