I cant possibly take my laptop to a shop as we are active swingers with cameras!
My Dell has two hard discs - one is now full and I keep getting warnings that it is and now cant use Picassa as there is not sufficient memory!
Why wont it just use the second drive which is empty?
How do I get it to do so?
Any help much appreciated! |

You have to set the second drive up as a slave drive (move the jumpers on it) if you haven't done this already.
For Picassa, just tell it which drive you want it to use. It will default to C:\ as that's the defualt designation for pc's with only one hard disk.
You could keep all your dirty piccies on a memory stick and tell Picassa to use that if you were so inclined. |

Move all your documents to the second drive and free up some space that way.
Also right click on the full drive (C: I guess) and click properties. There should be a disc cleanup button to remove temporary files.
You could also move your pagefile to the other drive. Google for how to do this for your OS. |

"Thanks - sorry but total twerp here - dont know what slave drive is or how to move the jumpers on it! Very grateful for idiot proof step by step instructions!"
Before getting carried away with slave drives and jumper settings it is more likely it is a single physical drive that has been partitioned as two logical drives "C" and "D" I say likely as all the laptops I've encountered only have space to fit in one drive. So you simply need to save to the "D" drive instead of "C" |

If its as some suggest on here that you have a single physical hard drive that is partitioned into two e.g. C & D then i suggest that you store all your files, documents and pictures on D and put your operating system, windows? programmes etc on C so that if the operating system becomes corrupted then C can be formatted without destroying your files, documents and pictures that are on D.
I wouldn't alter the page filing to use the other disc as windows may have a strop, just some basic house keeping needs to be done really |

PC World.
Half a terrabyte of USB storage is about fifty quid. Move all your files to that. Then, open the properties of the documents library in Explorer, and Include the folders you want from the USB drive.
Option two; if you have a BBC HomeHub it used to be possible to plug a USB disk into the USB socket on the back of the hub.
Option three; NAS storage, or a USB disk on a NAS server plugged into your router....
Have I won the techie boring bastard badge yet? |

Or my preferred solution - a cheap USB disk connected to the router via a cheap NAS dongle via ethernet over the home ring main.....
I don't trust cloud based solutions though - good for general work but not for anything confidential.... You still have to back the stuff up a s well... |

Get out your manual.
Restore to factory settings.
Stop saving pics and Vids.......
Take it to a shop anyway ..... there's no law against ADULT nude pics.
If you are going to flash everything you've got across the internet what's up with giving the P.C.World staff a gander and a giggle ? |

"Couldn't you just burn all the pics onto a disc (CD/DVD) to clear up hard drive space?"
I do this all the time, it's a very good practice, i've had a hard drive go on me recently, good job for backups. |

If the pictures are of some value to yourselves, then an external USB harddrive - saw 2TB (i.e. massive) for £50 the other day online and back up to there.
I run multiple external drives, backup and a daily use one. This keeps things like the work laptop clear of dodgy photos.
On things like DropBox they aren't always as secure as we think, and there are sites where people trade links.
Also I'd suggest avoiding PC World, who will often sell you stuff that you don't really need or want. Amongst swing buddies there must be someone who is a bit of a geek who will tidy up PC. |
