Funny how they're all posting losses now they're part govt own and will have to cough up if they make a profit. Weird that.

The thing is they often mis sold PPI to people that could never claim even if they were unable to work.....like Tens of Thousands of self employed people as highlighted in the FT the other day.

They were telling people that without taking out PPI they wouldn't be allowed a loan, even though a massive group were often not covered by the small print anyway....and would never be allowed to claim on the policy.

I think these customers should not only get their PPI payments back....but receive punative damages on top, that will teach these greedy banks not to rip people off in the future.

funny thing is sole owners of ltd companies can not claim on conventional company insurance if they are injured as they are responsible for health and safety. Brother in law found out when he lost an eye .

I am not for all this compensation culture as I work in the business and see all the bullsh*t claims that come in. It's such a farce that we think we can claim for everything because common sense no longer counts.

Saying that I have put a PPI claim in because it was missold to me. Sorry it wasn't sold to me it was automatically calulated and shuffled over and the options not explained

Actually I agree in a way with your statement on common sense and not always blaming others/ other things for one's lack of success.

If a claims genuine then fair play it's those idiot ones that really get my goat.

Woman who sued Macdonalds because she got in a car, put her HOT cofee between her legs and spilt it and then claimed becuse the cup did not tell her it was hot. Now if she had asked for a frapachino then maybe.....

Amazingly, my bank (RBoS) is paying its employees bonuses this year, when they are also claiming "poverty".

It is my intention, once I get back into work, to have an IFA look at my financial affairs, and get out out of the mainstream banks.

There was a survey in my daily paper this week saying that the Big 5 banks do not offer the best options; smaller banks and building societies do!

That McDonalds case really gets my goat, you wanna know why?

Because when you look into the case it was pretty bloody valid.

Yes the 79 year old woman did spill the coffee in her lap. But the claim wasn't because the cup didn't warn her it was hot coffee. It was because the coffee was so hot that it was unfit for human consumption. She had third degree burns over her thighs and groin. I remember reading that her labia was burnt bad enough that it ended up fused onto her groin.

Sorry, don't mean that as having a go at you! It's just one of those things that "grinds my gears".

On top of that I work for a bank as well!! In the IT end so nothing to do with the sorts of decisions that cause today's news.

Ok if you were a small bank and one of the big banks came to you, would you give them an overdraught?

Menston near Ilkley

Surprise, surprise the European finance minister is accused of fraud. Apparently transfering money from a state owned bank to a friend of President Sarkozy. FFS

There`s big difference in "hot" and "so bloody hot you`ll be lucky if you have a mouth left let alone any skin" but I do agree that a little common sense has to be taken. Perhaps you`ve noticed that the temperature of hot water in hotel rooms seems to be more acceptable these days. It`s not very bloody funny when washing your hands only for the water to suddenly become scalding hot when you least expect it!
