The WHO Global Gonococcal Antimicrobial Surveillance Programme (WHO GASP), monitors trends in drug-resistant gonorrhoea. WHO GASP data from 2009 to 2014 find widespread resistance to cip oxacin [97% of countries that reported data in that period found drug-resistant strains], increasing resistance to azithromycin [81%], and the emergence of resistance to the current last-resort treatment: the extended-spectrum cephalosporins (ESCs) oral cefixime or injectable ceftriaxone [66%].
Currently, in most countries, ESCs are the only single antibiotic that remain effective for treating gonorrhoea. But resistance to cefixime – and more rarely to ceftriaxone – has now been reported in more than 50 countries. As a result, WHO issued updated global treatment recommendations in 2016 advising doctors to give 2 antibiotics: ceftriaxone and azithromycin. |

Its not all that new! I am in and out of the labs in hospitals between bristol and bath and they have been tracking this for quite a long time now.
The over use of anti biotics for things like sore throtes ect has added to it but not the main cause.
The Gonorea bug can mutate quite fast so quickly becomes resistant to currant treatments.
There are a couple of heavy duty antibiotics in the system but they are kept in reserve for real life threatening stuff as you can live with Gonorea they are not used for that.

This certainly isnt a new story. Was reported several times over the last few years. Was a reported outbreak on leeds from what i remember.
We use condoms for full sex but not for oral and will continue to get tested and play that way x |

Hubby and I have only recently opened our relationship and neither of us have been sexual with anyone else as yet. Certainly from my point of view I find this concerning and it makes me even more fixed on my stance on safer sex, including protected oral.
