"Damn yes...or apple!!
But apple is in a finger donut, jam in ball donuts. It gets complicated...
I've had apple in ball doughnuts before..and it's good "
I'm going to call you out on that one.
I have donut filling experience 25 years back. The apple lumps wouldn't fit down the filling tube. Unless there's new fangled technology to do it. |

I'll see your 25 year old experience and raise you this:
It's more apple puree (or processed apple) than lumpy actual apple |

Love cold custard cakes of all sorts - custard slice, custard tart - but I only like it in a finger doughnut, not a round one, they should only ever have jam.
And now this thread has made me want a cake, and I'm supposed to be dieting |

If you have one, try Morrisons, they're superb. |

"Custard in doughnuts. Yay or nay?
Yay"
Hell No, XX. Looks like we'll never see eye to eye on this.
Custard is for jam roly-poly and ginger cake - that's all.
Doughnuts should be plain sugared rings. Slightly over done.

"Yay.
When I was student working in a supermarket bakery, one of my jobs was putting jam in donuts. I'd sometimes put in 5 doses instead of 1, just for fun "
I think you are guaranteed a place in heaven for that.

"The only filling that should be inside a doughnut is jam.
There is nothing else to say on the matter. "
Agreed. Custard is too thick and it doesnt compliment the doughnut at all. |

We had visitors at our factory by factory workers from a china, who had no experience of western cuisine and couldn't speak english. In the canteen they collected Uk canteen food from the counter. One poor bewildered guy poured his bowl of custard onto his sausage and chips
Probably like the daft combinations we do when ordering from a Chinese restaurant... |
