Newsnight is discussing the arrival of Sexbots, particularly for the use by sex offenders.
Apparently, there is a child sexbot already out there.
I'll hold back my comment, for now. but what do you think?

"I don't think it's illegal to use a simulation. And if it keeps their urges in check,,........I don't know.........
If used as part of treatment can be seen as a positive??
"
That's part of the argument...

I like the idea of sexbots.
I think they'll end up becoming more companions in the long term than just sex toys and I imagine they'll undermine the sex trade considerably. Especially as the AI side of things improves.
On the child sexbot front... I'd rather a robot that looks like a child were receiving attention than an actual child. |

Im shit at doing anything tecky and to be honest not sure i want to.
But i do think there will be a place in society for them.
Companionship for older people. I didnt see the programme so dont know what was said.
50 years time it will just be normal to have sexbot in the home.
Then in 50 years they will discussing the latest piece of technology |

That is part of the argument. The other side was that it may embolden some to move on to living people. They may have felt the desire but never acted on it but the sexbots could normalise the acting on the desire.

The trouble is there is evidence that things like this can just fuel the desire, think about yourself if you had an adult sexbot would that stop you wanting sex with a real person I know it wouldn't with me |

Stephen Hawking posits that the AI will have taken over.

I think for some it will be enough but certainly not for all.
I also wonder what it will do to further the decline of respect of and for human interaction. Just look at how people speak to each other online and take that even further.
Also, the bots will be designed to be pretty much perfect and very few real people will be a match for that. Everyone will expect to be with a "10" (I'm too hot to think of a better description).

I would say that those that will act on their desires will do so regardless of the sexbot.
But those with no other outlet have no choice beyond not acting at all. This at least gives them a legal and safe way to sate their urges. |

This is why I would like to read the paper.

"Sounds like quite a minefield
I also wonder what data the bot could hold/collect about the user.
"
Reminds me of that twitter account someone set up that was linked to the bed of a newly married couple. Length and intensity of sex were live tweeted.
But with robots. |

That didn't appear on my feed, thankfully.

Robots 8 years ago, though.
I avoided the whole social media thing back then. I didn't even know sites like this existed, that straight people did this stuff and didn't imagine I would be one of them and on an online forum.

A minefield indeed.
Whatever consenting adults get up to is one thing, but there has to be a line drawn later.
I suspect a ton of research would have to be done before risk/benefit could be calculated. My concern is that, particularly in the case of child sex bots, it could be interpreted as a gateway. By legitimizing virtual child abuse, would it be too far a stretch for a paedophile to want to take that one step further.
Look at Westworld as an example. Virtual people that are there and effectively disposable.
In my view it would be a slippery and dangerous slope.
But I'm no expert! |

Congrats on completely fucking any ability for anyone to have a sensible discussion by conflating the issue with peadofiles
Have you thought about a job campaigning for the government on unwarranted survailence?
Youd fit right in. |

Btw though child sex bots wouls be illegal in the UK for the same reason a cartoon of a child is illegal.
Sexual depiction of children real or not is against the law |

Sexbots are not people atm, so they should be viewed differently. They will become commonplace among the robots around us, so we should accept this.
A guy had sex with his Henry vacuum, so there's little that is ever new. |

I was raising a point from Newsnight. Blame the report that conflates the issue not me and stop being so fucking rude to me.

Those are the facts of the story being discussed. It was all over the internet news sites yesterday. Why don't you have the ability to have a rational debate? |

People already lack empathy for other humans. I think the internet started it and it's passed into real life.
I think certain people would just use the robots to become even worse at what they do. |

This is my fear, however, there are reports of some people with ASD benefiting and learning good interaction through technology.
