Can you all give me an answer to the above interview question I know it's going to come up in both interviews tomorrow as I have had said interview before...I can never answer it without it turning to shit |

Ignore them both and do something else
Put both in a hat and draw one out
Or weigh up each other with pros and cons and see if you can deal with the most urgent; or delegate one to someone else whilst you undertake the other |

For example if you're given a piece of work by your line manager that has to be done by noon or the company will be liable for thousands and the CEO asks for a document that needs to be done by the next day...which would you do first and why? |

There will always be times when tasks are given and both are deemed to be a priority, firstly identify the timescales and level of work each tasks would require and if this wasn't sufficient for a decision to be made then I would seek assistance from my manager |

Determine what's urgent and which is important firstly.
Time allocated to complete each one.
Does one need fully completed or not?
Maximum and minimum number of people each effects.
Can anyone accuse you of impartiality.
Google said question OP and I'm sure there's some professional responses too.

For example if you're given a piece of work by your line manager that has to be done by noon or the company will be liable for thousands and the CEO asks for a document that needs to be done by the next day...which would you do first and why? "
The line manager request as it would have a cost implication to the company I would then action the piece of work for the CEO next if I was unable to do that I would ask a colleague to see if they were able to obtain the information this would ensure that all work is completed for both parties? |

I'm too much of a perfectionist, I can become focused on the fine detail but it something I'm working on and feel with correct guidance it could become an asset when managed correctly....

Fighting fires.
Which one has the potential to do more damage?
Is there another team member/colleague you can delegate one of the tasks to.
If you are unsure, rather than taking a guess, you would explain the situation to your line manager and ask them for advice. Until you are confident you're making the right decision you will look to a member of staff who's respected and has more experience |

You could ask for clarification. Conflicting priorities is a very wide scope. Is is solely within the business, is it work - life balance, is it business v's personal. Are you alone or do you have colleague support. By having them give two or three specific examples it allows you a little time, it shortens the answer considerably? |
