i believe in evolution personally just makes more sense to me |

Evolutionary here too. Science can explain so much whereas the Church comes back with "Each day of the 7 days of creation lasted millions of years."
Noah had 937 kids too, apparently, and lived to the ripe old age of 1,250-ish. |

but my problem is i can listen to all the arguements as to why there is one but my head just screams REALLY!!!!!!!!!!

Evolution is pretty much un-deniable. However a retort from religions are usualy 'its part of Gods Plan'. Science is far from anti-religious as there is many things that is beyond human understanding, and many scientists hold faith not just in books, reserch and study but in a "higher power", personally i think it is only zeolots that could say evolution is a fabrication of the mind. Evolution is adaption and we adapt to our surroundings everyday, ie - if someone tends to use teeth on a blowjob u adapt by staying the fuck away or getting gum shields :D.
Or simply on a more serious note, look around the world and see the types of species that have adapted or evolved to live in certain enviroments, even humans shapes and genes gradually change over generations. Everything changes with time. Thats the beauty of it. |

evolution is a fact you cant escape. We evolve slightly every day. You go to gym, you get fitter and stronger etc. Religeon is another thing. Its the epicenter of most war and evil. But its strange, if you lost everything , had no way out, thinking of ending it all etc, how many athiests have a wonder in the back of their heads ? Just human nature. We like answers to our questions, even if there isnt one. |

Here is one atheist you will never hear suddenly changing his mind and asking for divine intervention. I don't even use phrases like "for God's sake"! or "Jesus fookin Christ!" as it seems to be a completely stupid way of voicing my frustration to an entity that doesn't, hasn't and never will exist. |

You know, I honestly think there is room for both.
Perhaps what really happened was some celestial being/entity gave things a nudge and from then on, evolution took its course.
Evolution is sound fact, but you only have to look a few examples of it to realise that somewhere, someone gives it a nudge every now and then who has a real sense of humour:
The Duck Billed Platypuss
A Penis in cold weather
Justin Beiber
Has anyone ever wondered why we are the only species to hear hats?

Evolution and science ALL the way for me. I cannot understand how anyone can look at all the evidence of evolution etc, and say "Yeah, but it's all crap as god made it work" , or even be crazy enough to deny it's existence entirely, when there is not on iota, jot, scintilla, or scrap of evidence of your own imaginary sky fairy! And they will happily say that Thor,Osiris, Ba'al,[insert any other gods name here], etc dont exist, but won't apply the same logic to their own.
Sure, science cannot explain every last thing (yet!) but the gaps are explored by science...and ignored by religion.
It really scares & angers me that even today the majority of Americans, and even a substantial portion of Brits, believe in creationism, and deny evolution. No wonder science is so screwed up in schools, and it will only get worse. |

If there were a god then it cannot be a man or straight woman...if it were a bloke he would have made sperm taste like chocolate. If she were a woman, she would have done the same. The only conclusion therefore is that god is a militant man hating lesbian
Well..its no more unfeasible than the other theories |

100% evolution
quote from one of my fav films
'There is no God. There can be no God; it's ridiculous to think in terms of a superior being. An inferior being, maybe, because we, we who don't even exist, we arrange our lives with more order and harmony than God ever arranged the earth. We measure; we plot; we create wonderful new things. We are the architects of our own existence. What a lunatic concept to bow down before a God who slaughters millions of innocent children, slowly and agonizingly starves them to death, beats them, tortures them, rejects them. What folly to even think that we should not insult such a God, damn him, think him out of existence. It is our duty to think God out of existence. It is our duty to insult him. Fuck you, God! Strike me down if you dare, you tyrant, you non-existent fraud! It is the duty of all human beings to think God out of existence. Then we have a future. Because then - and only then - do we take full responsibility for who we are. And that's what you must do, think God out of existence; take responsibility for who you are.' |

I'm with evolution and survival of the fittest. I have a logical mind and cant even watch the most complicated magic tricks without breaking down the logistics of how its done.
Like a previous poster basically said, most wars are started through religious disagreement, and if there was a god, why would he/she let so much suffering go on in the world?
My only 'niggle' with evolution is this : bodies of living things can be boken down into various substances (water etc) but where does your thoughts/ideas/emotions etc come from? how does your brain store information to be called on as and when needed? and how is that transmitted through the mound of mush that is our bodies?
(very deep I know, I havnt been smoking either!) |

Evolution is apparent. There are solid facts to prove this, and they are (as far as i am aware) pretty positive that the big bang happened. Though how did it happen? Did a deity start it? Then how did that deity come to be?
Maybe most of lifes important lessons are answered in death?

Here is some logic for you.
Everything on this planet, even the planet itself has a finite history. This implies there was a time it did not already exist. If it did not already exist something had to bring it into existence. Something that does not exist cannot bring itself into existence (a logical absolute). So you may take it back to the singularity we call the big bang, but if the big bang did not already exist prior to the big bang, something had to bring it into existence. |

If the Earth has a finite mass (earth, atmosphere, biological, mineral, liquid etc) then it stands to reason that the universe has a finite mass also. I would go as far as to say that the entire amount of mass in the universe is constant, it has always weighed the exact same amount as it does now and always will.
Where am I going with this?
Well, if the mass of the universe is constant yet stars are the centre of solar systems which in turn are part of galaxies and new galaxies are being formed continually then the mass of the universe must be distributed where and as it's needed and if new galaxies require mass then that mass has to come from somewhere - which is why galaxies die, so that it's mass can be redistributed.
On a micro scale, our bodies digest biomatter which means our bodies are as much a part of the Earth as any other living thing and all we're doing is redistributing the biomatter of the Earth in the time that we're alive and when we die we go back to the earth to be redistributed ourselves, even with cremation we are turned into pure carbon which is scattered somewhere and returned to the Earth (even if you're stood in a jar on a mantelpiece for a few decades you'll end up being dumped by someone somewhere sooner or later.)
Everything is as it should be. |

"has to be evolution, this shouldnt be a discussion, every1 should just accpet science is right."
Science can give us the mathematical answers as to how something exists, religion gives us a moral compass that may explain why it exists. I'm not religious in any way shape or form but I accept faith as neccessary as humans do not have a good track record when you take away the basis of a belief system and allow man to do as he truly pleases. |

I would accept that as at this date given the limits of our knowledge that the logical conclusion supports your statement. However scientists once believed that the earth was flat and to have said otherwise would have resulted in public ridicule. So all of the definites of today become tbe questionales of tomorrow as our knowledge gets greater and the boundaries of our research throw up new questions which today's laws of physics fail to accommodate. What goes up must come down? - unless it goes so far up as to escape the gravitational pull of the planet an exception to an accepted law of physics - all I would say is we shouldn't discount either possibility or a combination of the two as we don't know enough about the universe to be definitive. Scientists say - where did god come from religious people say he was just there religious people could ask ' where did the point of infinite mass and singularity come from?' bet the scientists have to say - it was just there!
I watched BBC 4 tbe other night - can you tell?? |

And if so, where dis that "something" come from itself? Who created the creator? And the creator's creator? Ad infinitum,
Whether before the big bang there was a big crunch, in a series of expoanding & contracting universes, or there was a singularity outside space time, or all the matter in the cosmos -- all of space itself -- existed in a form smaller than a subatomic particle, science will one day find out.Maybe not in our lifetimes sadly, but that does not automatically leave a god shaped hole in the evidence for religion to fill |

i cannot see see how a pile of bricks , given a few bllion years will turn itself into a house . thats evolution . inteligent design out of random elements .
how does a single cell amaeba through generations of reproduction sudenly grow an eye one day so that it can hunt for food easier . surely it would need to know what an eye is and what an eye does in order to want one in the first place .
then surely the first creature to grow eyes would rule the world . science tells us that mankind is at 5 to midnight in evolutionary terms, yet we rule the world . things just dont add up .

Evolution does not work like that-there is no "goal" as such, nature does not set out to grow an eye, or anything else. evolution is blind.
There will be a mutation in one organism, be it a single cell or an animal, and that mutation will lead it to be able to deal with it's environment better than the non mutated version, leading to its very gradual dominance in that respect. Mutations can build on mutations, till eventually a new species evolves(or a subspecies if , say, 2 populations are seperated into different environs) That species is beter suited to survival, and it can then cary on evolving. But there is no end destination...it doesnt have to be a complete eye for example, just enough to better differentiate betwen, say, light & dark, which has an advantage..and eventually leads to an eye. And it doesnt even have to be a perfect adaption/mutation. The human eye, for example, is pretty crap all told. Its back to front!

Newton's Law of Gravity dictates that what goes up must come down, but if gravity isn't present then Newton's Law governing it doesn't apply.
If a body of mass escapes earth's gravitational pull then there must exist another force that will continue to pull it further into space. If such a force didn't exist then it would come to a dead stop when it reached the limit of the gravity that the Earth exerts upon it.
There has to be an equal force outside of the Earth that wants to pull everything away from the planet surface as much as the core of the planet wants to pull everything down towards it. |

But Newton didn't take into account a suitable power source (rocket), acceleration exceeding gravitational pull (unheard of in Newton's day) and the unknown variant of the vacuum of space providing infinite momentum. |

The force is described in Newtons 1st Law: The velocity of a body remains constant unless the body is acted upon by an external force. It isnt something that is pulling ...space doesnt suck
Outside of a gravitational field a body will kep going, until either friction(space dust etc) or another gravity field act upon it, to either change direction, or speed it up, like a sattalite using a slingshot trajectory to gain speed. |

It is not an either or in my opinion, i am a Christian, but believe in evolution and the big bang.
Many parts of the Bible are symbolic, when we read of swords being beaten into plowshares at the Second Coming we do not run out and buy a sword, but understand it means peace in the language of the time.
A literal interpretation of Genesis has a number of problems.
1.the word day is mistranslated from the hebrew for era or period of time.
2,the hebrew used the same word for world and universe.
3.There are 2 versions of the creation of Adam.
There is one great strength tho, if you look at the evolution of the universe and life on earth it follows the structure described.
i look at it this way, if my 7 year old asks how a nuclear reactor works i dont tell him to get a degrree in physics.
In the same way God was explaining things to a nomadic desert people who did not have the wheel |

The eye does not just appear...natural selection is the process of random variations which give one member of a species an advantage over the other members, meaning its offspring are more likely to survive.
In the same way we did not just appear, but are the product of the same process. |

Adaptation of species makes sense, but how it all originally started, no idea. |

So by that reasoning, if an object is ejected from a spacecraft in outer space with no means of powering itself, will it be in exactly the same position in relation to itself 100 years later, assuming nothing has collided with it?

It cant be in the same position relative to itself, as it IS itself, but it can be in the same relative position to the spaceship it came from.
take as an example a bomb dropped from a speeding plane in level fright. The bomb will move forward as it carries momentum from the plane, but on earth gravity affects it too, in space assuming not other gravity well nearby that wont apply. The force used to eject it would still apply so it could for example be travelling away from the ship..just look at the giant asteroid in Armageddon..both bits carry on forward after Bruce Willis blows it up butalso sideways due tho the force of his bomb LOL |

The object's ejection would be the momentum needed for perpetual motion, without outside influences. If the object was left to "hang" and there were no other gravitational influences, yes, it would stay in exactly the same position. There are many planets being discovered that have no solar system, so no gravitational force, that have "hung" motionless in space for trillions of years. |

The reason I said in relation to itself was that I didn't want you to think I meant in relation to anything else. The Earth moves around the Sun, the sloar system travels around the galaxy as the galaxy itself rotates, and a galaxy continually turning must be exerting phenominal forces upon everything contained in it, and because of that force I propose that no object is perpetually stationary in space. |

"i'm just amazed i managed to start a thread thats got above 50

No, its evolution-the interesting threads get more posts & thus dominate the forum gefore being overtaken by more interesting threads, and they become extinct by dropping off the page |
