His exposure is probably a direct result of his popularity. He must get a lot of air time because I've seen him, heard his music and could name one of his songs. As a radio 3 and 4 listener that's saying something .

I'm not a fan of pop/chart music, but I know when someone is talented, and good old copper bollocks certainly is just that.
Excellent songwriter, knows how to use his guitar to effect, bosses his loop pedal like nobody's business. I'm a fan. |

I'm just grateful to be of a generation that was exposed to truly great singer song-writers long before many of the present crop were even born and for that I'm truly grateful because it means I can ignore the inane warbling of todays popular acts without diminishing my enjoyment of the best of the best ......

Well, he seems like a nice enough guy, and he's obviously talented. And it's good to see a pop star doing well who isn't all about his looks. I don't resent his success.
But his music does nothing for me. I don't see the appeal.

I love the story about the pub landlord in his village saying "that Ned Sherrin was in" and Ed enjoying the joke.

This thread has made me watch the Glastonbury set on BBC1 now.
He's ok, it's mainly wash over you music. He seems fairly comfortable being up there on his own and the crowd are singing along.
I remain annoyance free.

I only listen to kerrang or radio X so don't hear much at all, but I admit to liking him and his music.
I think he's a fantastic role model as he himself says he was a "weird kid with a speech impediment". Tells the kids to be themselves, they don't need to fit in. I'd love to give him a high 5 and thank him for being a seemingly great guy.
I do think that radio etc can overexpose people and put you off their music. Some songs I adored I can't listen to anymore purely because I've heard them so much. |

Ok, so my biggest beef isnt with him personally - and how can it be, I dont know tbe bloke - but moreso the music media that seem to have built him up to god-like status where there are, in my opinion, better contemporaries not getting anywhere near the same exposure.

I like most of his music, I respect the fact that he actually is a musician, he comes across as a nice, affable fellow (though this could be canny marketing of course).
Yeah, he is on occasion a little over exposed and iconised, but heh Ho the guy has worked for it.
I tend to follow the option that if something entirely voluntary (like listening to a radio station) is getting me a tad riled, I stop doing it. Maybe pop on some tunes that you do enjoy OP, music can be the best medicine for the soul you know. |

I do think that the way the chart works now, being able to have 8 songs in the top 40 is a bit excessive. Some of his sings are alright and he seems to have cornered the wedding sing market quite well. |
